eeneR 3 #1 September 16, 2003 Yesterday I was involved in a pretty serious accident. Driving thru an intersection, just as I approached it, the light turned yellow, I was not in the position to stop. A car proceeded to make a left turn directly infront of me. I T-boned that car directly in the passanger door, launched it over the curb, and my truck turned 180. I had on my seatbelt. Between that the airbags and a well constructed vehical I was able to just open the door and walk out. The other vehical sustained major damage to the passenger side, which required the jaws of life to get the passenger out of the front passenger seat. The other two passengers were able to get out under their own power and only had minor bumps and bruises, as they were all wearing there seatbelts. I sustained 2nd degree burns on my right arm from the airbag opening and a bruised knee from hitting the dash (I am vertically challenged so I sit close). Had anyone of us had not been wearing a seatbelt, things could have been a lot worse. freeflir29 0 #8 September 16, 2003 Ouch....I know you are vertically challenged but it's always best to sit as far back from the airbag as possible. Anyway...glad you are OK. I had to learn to wear seat belts the hard way. I ate the dash (6in deep crater in it) of a 1978 Trans Am when I was 14. No seat belt......lost 3 teeth and spent a few days in the hospital. I probably would have walked away with a few bruises if I had a seat belt on.
eeneR 3 #9 September 16, 2003 Thank you everyone.......So far I am suprized that I am not hurting more then I already am....I have a feeling tomorrow it will really kick in. As for sitting close, I sit as far back as I can and still reach the pedals. I also have the back reclined to keep me as far away from the steering wheel as possible, So the bruised knee is no biggie. I think between the seatbelt and air bag there was not a whole lot of whipping motion. Some how my glasses were not even broken We will see how I am tomorrow..... The burn on my arm however sucks....She is not a "Dumb Blonde" - She is a "Light-Haired Detour Off The Information Superhighway." eeneR TF#72, FB#4130, Incauto

freakyflygirl 0 #17 September 16, 2003 Glad to hear your alright!!! Thank goodness you were wearing your seatbelt. I live near a very accident prone intersection and have seen lots of accidents where people weren't wearing seatbelts. Last one was a particularly bad one, I saw four bodies laying around, a truly horrible thing for anyone to see. One of the deceased was a 9 yr old child . If I wasn't a believer in seatbelts already I think that one would have changed my mind. Take care of yourself, get some R&R, I'm sure you need it right now!!!!! SkydiveNFlorida 0 #19 September 16, 2003 Wow, glad to hear you walked away from it! Last weekend someone got in a minor accident and walked away from it. I noted the deployed airbags and the smoke/dust that came from them and wondered about that being safe. I mean, what if you were unconscious for a min or two, all that smoke entraped in with you couldn't be a good thing. Did you experience that? Get rest after your adrenaline wears thin, you'll be needing it. Angela.

Which suprized me that it had opened with no problem. I was afraid to sit there and breathe that dust. Then someone told me that my vehical was leaking fluid and to get out incase it was fuel. I looked down and it was antifreeze, but got out and sat on the grass waiting for the paramedics. She is not a "Dumb Blonde" - She is a "Light-Haired Detour Off The Information Superhighway." eeneR TF#72, FB#4130, Incauto

I noted the deployed airbags and the smoke/dust that came from them and wondered about that being safe. Airbags are dusted with either cornstarch or talc to keep the fabric supple. It's harmless, but it smells like ass when mixed with the scent of the propellant. At least it did in my old car when they went off. Supposedly, in some cars (Volvo?) they use a bit of some type of ammonia-like chemical to help prevent loss of consciousness. It's kinda like the ammonia ampules they break under someone's nose to revive them.Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™
