crapflinger2000 1 #1 September 16, 2003 Quick question. I am looking for a new car, what have people's experiences been with newer Audis (i.e. 1998 and up) Audis, specifically A4s... crap? nice? breaks down a lot (or not)? etc, etc. Thanks... __________________________________________________ What would Vic Mackey do? lazyfrog 0 #2 September 16, 2003 1st of all you're talking about a CAR, not a US piece of metal on wheels A4's are cool, S4 and RS4 even better, but the RS6 is the best...---------- Fumer tue, péter pue ------------- ourson #10, Mosquito Uno, CBT
AndyMan 7 #3 September 16, 2003 What I don't like about Audi's is that I think they're overpriced. By the sticker, you'd think they're luxury cars, but they're not. They're good solid cars, but I just can't put them into the same ballpark as Mercedes, BMW, or Lexus. Unfortunately, they cost around the same as those... Given the coin for an Audi, myself I'd be looking at BMW or Lexus. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

PhillyKev 0 #5 September 16, 2003 I'd put Audi above Lexus, but I they're all over priced. If you want a solid car, with AWD, and good handling and power, check out the Subaru WRX.

dterrick 0 #7 September 16, 2003 good exapmles are GREAT. However, a client of mine (engineer by trade and gar-guy in general) had soooo many things go wrong with his A4 he un-leased it early and got into a BMW "ix". Says it doesn't handle as well, and the 4wd is primitive by contrast. I drove it and it feels like a modernized version of my Dad's 635csi ... which felt like a modernized version of my grey market 2500 saloon (1970 - a classic even now). Dad also has a Legacy outback Limited. If you can deal with the Japanese-ism of these cars I'd agree with PhillyKev that the WRX is the class of the lot! The STi?? Gawain 0 #8 September 16, 2003 edmunds.com is a good source. The 1.8T engine is probably the best engine that Volkswagen has ever built. An A4 1.8T will serve you well. Fit and finish in Audis is well known, body gap and panel gap variance tolerances are 3mm! Audis are fine cars. Crap? No. Cost of ownership (if used), likely a bit higher than a similarly equipped Honda or Toyota. My sister is an Audi nut, me, I like Hondas. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! AndyMan 7 #11 September 16, 2003 Quote I'd put Audi above Lexus, but I they're all over priced. You can't get a half decent GPS system on the Audi, you can on the lexus. Am I being pedantic? No. GPS systems have been around for decades in true luxury cars, I don't understand why Audi can't have one. Lexus dealerships will suck you off, while Audi dealerships will piss you off. Your mileage may vary, though. QuoteIf you want a solid car, with AWD, and good handling and power, check out the Subaru WRX. I thought we were talking luxury cars?!?!? It's a nice car, but definately not luxury. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
PhillyKev 0 #12 September 16, 2003 QuoteI thought we were talking luxury cars?!?!? It's a nice car, but definately not luxury. Hey, he brought up Audi's, you said they're crap, who said anything about luxury cars To each his own. Personally, I refuse to pay $10k for a name. I wanted to get an AudiTT when they came out. Found out the sticker price, then that they were charging $6k over that at the dealership and said forget it. Went to test drive one anyway, and it was a dog. My $24k Celica GTS handles better and is faster. My boss is considering the Porshe SUV. I told her it will take all my will not to vandalize that blasphemous abomination if I see it in the parking lot.

Samurai136 0 #14 September 16, 2003 Car and Driver likes the A4. In a recent comparisson test they said, "we've never driven an A4 we didn't like." In this test the A4 came in 2nd to the 330i BMW. Ken"Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken

TitaniumLegs 8 #16 September 17, 2003 Audis rock. I had a Coupe Quattro in Germany and it was great, in spite of me crashing it a couple times. In fact, I wish I'd shipped it over and converted it to US spec. Don't listen to those BMW dweebs SebAss and Simon "Mr Night Navigator". They're like people who own Eichler homes: They have one so they have to try to make you think it's better than what you got. Actually, they're right that Audis are not in the same class as BMW or Mercedes - they're BETTER. With all the money in the world, I would buy another Audi before a BMW or Mercedes. nacmacfeegle 0 #19 September 17, 2003 Brand new, they are overpriced, but you can get in warranty second hand jobs which represent excellent value for money. I have an S3, which I love, solidly built, reliable, good performance and sticks to the road like shit to a blanket. sfc 1 #21 September 17, 2003 Quote Clearly you never rode in Valerie at terminal velocity on the A6-->A9-->A8 to St Anton. Not sure which german freeways I rode, but I did drive in germany quite a bit for work when I was in the UK. My old BMW saved me big time, emergency stop from 125mph, stopped on a dime, and it the steering did'nt even twitch, ended up about 6 feet from the other car, I had been bracing for an impact. It also saved me from the tree I hit, and was still repairable, any other car would have ended up a lump of twisted metal with me in the middle being cut out. Naming your car Valerie, the only other person I know called Valerie was the 60year+ cleaner at the office in england, this is another problem you will not have with a BMW, it is just a bimmer, does'nt need another name.
