oh, and 85 miles an hr is a requirement except for the one jackoff who always rides in the left lane doing 60.

Yup! That would be the asshat with the Wisconsin Plates !!

How bout the victory auto wreckers commercial??? or the one with eagle man?

also, comiskey, US Cellular my question is...

..there's baseball on the south side???? :P

Last I checked, that invisible team on the South Side is two games into first place and have the strongest offense in the AL. :P

Hmm...Two Chicago teams, both in First Place, October is almost here....I just checked accuweather, the temp in hell is 33F and falling.

Oh yea, and thats Comiskey Park where they play.

I've found taking Metra is THE only way to go to get downtown. Unless of course someone else is driving ;).

I absolutely LOVE Chicago, the energy alone in the city is phenomenal!!! I have been to other big cities in the US and still Chicago is my fav.

But take this for what it's worth, I live in a small town about 1 1/2 hours to 3 (depending on traffic :P) that only has about 2000 people and ONE stop light that was just put in about a month ago. I think we even have a center line on one of our roads here :S.

For all you naysayers, I just have to say again I love the city. And thanks to AM I took my first bus ride a couple weeks ago. Those damn cab rides get expensive, not to mention scary as hell!!!!!!!

Texans also measure distance in "time" rather than miles, but it's more like hours than minutes due to the size of the state.:P

Texans cancel school because of the cold, but the heat is something that we live with.

Funny, I thought we had nothing in common with anyone "up north"!!!:D

Not to mention that I-35 goes east and west to hit Dallas and Ft. Worth, and you can go north or south on it, then hits I-635 at some point.
I-30 is Tom Landry Highway, even though Texas Staduim is on Loop 12 and The Ballpark at Arlington is on I-30.
HWY 183 is somehow in both Dallas and Austin.
In Austin, the streets "Guadalupe" and "Manchaca" are pronounced "Gwadaloop" and "Man-shack".
If you dont drive a truck or an SUV, you cant see shit in front of you because everyone else has a truck or SUV and you're too short.
Its not rare to see horse shit on the interstate.
Chicago has Chicago-style pizza.. but in Texas, BBQ is NOT loose meat.. its not even a food. Its a method of cooking brisket, ribs, pork, and chicken.
You dont neccessarily BBQ on a grill either.
Y'all got it?? :P

If the truck, in Texas, does not have a winch on it, the truck is not from Texas. MLK is MLK.
If you dont know where Boat Town is you dont know Austin.

I lived in the NW burbs until 1996, and for the life of me, I can't understand these references to high-speed traffic.

Well, you have to be prepaired to go from about 10 to 80 mph w/ in a mile & then w/in 1/8th a mile back down to 10 - so I guess you would average 40 during rush hour. The references are to the light to non-rush hour times.

There is no can't. Only lack of knowledge or fear. Only you can fix your fear.

Oh yea, and nobody ever tells you this, but if you have Truck plates (like I have on my van) it is illegal to drive on the lakefront. So the fastest way from north to south is not an option...did'nt know this till I moved my son up to Chicago, with a van load of his belongings.. ( I live in DOWNSTATE Illinois, directly inline with chicago {they call it DOWNSTATE, so they can look DOWN their noses at you})

This thread is one week too late. I got totally lost in Chicago last week when the car rental place gave me bogus directions to the hotel. At least I was staying at the Sutton Place so when I FINALLY got there it was worth it.... walk into my room to find the stereo on and playing a CD from the collection provided, fresh bucket of ice on the bar, and a beautiful orchid in the bathroom (robe is a given.) God I love that hotel!

Oh - and they did a great job fixing up Wrigley field - or whatever the heck they're calling it now. Nice! Can't wait to check out the new Soldier Field! Looked cool from the air..... last time I was there 2 years ago it was a dump. Glad they didn't tear it down though - too much history. It's a classic!:)

Wrigley Field is still Wrigley Field. It's kind of fun--I work with the Prints & Photographs collection at the Chicago Historical Society, and I frequently see pictures from when it was still called Weegham Field, and it hasn't really changed all that much! If anyone is curious, there are tons of pictures from our Chicago Daily News collection from 1902-1933 that you can browse. http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/ndlpcoop/ichihtml/cdnhome.html

U.S. Cellular Field, formerly known as Comiskey Park (yes, to true Chicagoans, it will ALWAYS be known Comiskey), formerly known as South Side Park is a great stadium, but it just doesn't have that old "take me out to the ball game" feel like Wrigley Field does. U.S. Cellular is just like any other fancy shmancy corporate stadium.

Last week AndyMan and I blew off work and went to a Cubs game with his bosses, and we sat in the right field bleachers. That was a blast! The best line that we heard shouted out was "Your mama's a foul ball...BITCH!" :D Wrigley Field bleacher culture definitely has a certain camaraderie going on--even with the visiting team.

Lastly, I think the new Soldier Field (formerly Grant Park Stadium) looks horrendous. I refer to it as the big toilet bowl. Or a spaceship that decided to land in what used to be Soldier Field. Such a monstrously ugly thing...AND it has LESS SEATS than the old stadium!!!

As bad as the bears are, i dont think it will matter that soldier spaceship has less seats than before....
