Any home remedies?

Recommended Posts

I feel like absolute shit, I've been getting sick over the past 2 days and now its really hitting. So I slept in today instead of waking up to do my homework for tomorrow, I'm about to eat then take some stuff to help me out. I've got to get on my feet today so I can jump, I have students scheduled for this afternoon at the DZ...

So anyone have any good home remedies for a hard-core cold/flu type thing? Aching body, sinuses going crazy, sore throat, cough, but no fever (I think).:S

Chicken soup (of course), a hot bath (the heat will relax your muscles, and the steam will temporarily help clear out your sinuses), and lots of sleep.
I'm also a firm believer in Advil Cold and Sinus-it's a miracle drug.
Be sure to get enough to eat, even if it's just soup and crackers--feed a cold and all that.
My boyfriend's had a cold for a couple of days now, and he's starting to feel better, finally.

Oh, on a side note, if you eat some REALLY HOT salsa, it'll help clear out your sinuses for awhile!;)
Get well, Dave!

Well what always worked for me was a couple of shots of SoCo and a beer, topped off with nyquill and a good night's rest.

Of course if you have to instruct today that will not work until this evening. I doubt there i anything that will get you back by this afternoon.

Hope you are able to kick it.

If you want a natural approach, take a lot of Vitamin C, garlic (preferably an odorless one, you can get them in capsule form without the bad smell), licorice root which will help break everything up, and you can take goldenseal and zinc. Basically if you can get to a health food store you are covered.

Definitely not a good combination. Jumping plus ear or sinus problems = bad juju.

Yeah, I know...atleast with a 182, it desn't climb as fast or go as high, since I'm going to be doing tandems today I'll pull before 4500ft, so there'll be less pressure change then a normal jump. That and with tandems I can clear my ears in freefall with no problem, since I'm not going to be picking up grips or anything like that.

Definitely think about it. I had a female bud lose part of her hearing from jumping congested. I definitely do not reccommend it.

at least 1000mg of Vit C and get some zinc and echinacea in you. (A health food store or good pharmacy will have these)

They should help witha speedier recovery.
A good ights rest and lots and lots of fluids.

hope you feel better soon.

I'm gonna have to agree on this one.

I also take Green Tea pills when I'm sick. Of course, you can make and drink Green Tea, but I don't really like Tea - so I go to GNC and get some pills. :)
Vitamins A and E are also both antioxidents.

If it's jumping you need to do, then I suggest Thera-Flu Dave. It just F'n works. I dunno the ingredients, but I would hope that they are safe for Tandems. Other than that I loke kramers Idea. It works too, or at least you don't care if it doesnt.

Edited: 'Sides, looks like rain. You might have gotten lucky.

Is it a good idea if you're sick to be spreading the germs to the Tandem students?
Plus, I'm with the other people that have already said it, don't jump if your ears are giving your problems.

ZICAM works really well. You can get it at your local drugstore. My husband's firm put a patent on the stuff so I tried it out while they we're writing the patent. It sems to be the most effective remedy...it literally reduces the cold from 10-14 days to about 2-3 days if you use it as soon as you feel symptom creeping up on you. There website answers alot of common questions:

Lots of extra fluids and Vitamin C works for me.
Hope you feel better. PM me your address and I'll be happy to send you a sample but I don't think you'll get in time to start feeling better before the weekend.

Reminds me of soemthing I heard called the Swedish cold remedy.

Take a big red stocking cap and put it at the foot of your bed on a post. Curl up into bed all nice and warm with a big bottle of schnaps. Drink the schnaps until you can't see the red cap anymore. By the time you wake up and recover from your hangover you'll be feeling fine.

Not a good idea if you're planning on jumping of course... especially if you're doing tandems.

Thera-Flu is pretty good... though tea and ancetometophin (Tylenol) pretty much does the same thing if you pop some decongestants along with it. Teas taste better too IMHO.

If your sinuses are full and you might be contagious, don't, for pete's sake, breathe all over students. When you're congested and jump anyway, the decreased pressure at altitude turns you into a serious snot factory.

So take Nyquil (my personal favorite) and lots of vitamin C. Teach the class from the front of the room, and let someone else TM them.

Hi AggieDave,

Sorry you are not feeling well :(. I recommend sleep and lots of rest. Doing nothing except laying around. Theraflu may help you out if you can hack it, I personally only drink it if I really need to because it tastes nasty but it really helps. Also there is this natural/holistic over the counter remedy that used to work really well for me called Alpha C/F (Cold & Flu). That Alpha C/F has a lot of Zinc in it which can also relieve a sore throat.

Other than that, hot liquids like soups and teas and comfort food. I would rent a few good movies, read a good book or knock out some HW.

Hope you feel better soon!
