Fox,

Sangiro can certainly stick up for himself just fine, but I just thought I'd throw out a friendly word of advice to you first.

Read a lot, think a lot, then post a little.

I don't see Sangiro throwing out bad advice about skydiving. He is knowledgeable, but even so, he has appointed experts in various fields as moderators. Seems pretty responsible to me.

Do you have some axe to grind with him? If so, you might want to take it to private messages. We generally like the site, which is why we keep coming back. I've found it to be run with a fair and even hand. In my opinion, you are starting off here looking like an ass. You may want to consider taking a pause on the posting until you fully understand what the site is about and the spirit with which it is run.

If HH has to lock a thread that he started, I wonder if that's a first. I can't remember that ever happening before...

That sucks. :S

I haven't been here very long at all, but I have never seen any one TROLL on HH's threads.

american skydiving

Wow... I must go to the US more often.. I didnt realize you guys do it different then us! lol....

I'm not sure if the new forums will turn up well, and I was one of the rare people, way back when, who voice his negative opinion about the creation of all the then new forums (RW, FF, etc...). I'm still not sure its a 100% great idea. So obviously, my jury is still out on the French, German, and Spanish ones.

But I can garrantee you that my 3 year experience in posting will make sure that no bad advice is given there (yes, that was sarcasm). Oh... and maybe my 11 years in the sport. And I'm pretty sure Lou and Grosfion can handle themselves too....

I respect that you think its a bad idea, but american skydiving? thats just plain funny....

I consider myself a decent spoter, thank you very much... my accuracy, well, thats another story....

Add spelling to that list also......unless, of course, Canadian spelling is different than American spelling....;)

I heard that it wasn't a bad spot....you just missed the disk by 1500 yards...

When bad advice gets thrown into skydiving, SOMEONE CAN GET KILLED!

I hope your haphazard way of thinking that just because you didn't lead them to the water, it's not your fault if the waters poisoned; isn't as infectious in skydiving schools across the country.

There is this other fairly well-known internet skydiving resource called rec.skydiving. It is totally unmoderated and there is no practical way to verify the identity, skills, knowledge or any other trait of anybody on there short of reading everything they've ever posted (assuming you can verify that all those posts really came from the same person). A common reply, or portion of a reply to many questions posted is "but you should really check with your instructor(s)." Obviously, the same thing applies here, but at least here people can fill in a profile that is readily available here. Of course, people can lie on that, too, but the majority will not, which makes it at least a little easier to judge the value of any given response, especially if a consensus of several can be reached.

How would you suggest that any skydiving web site be proven to contain accurate information? Any jerk can build a bullshitskydiving.com web site loaded with wrong info, plastered with USPA, FAA and other logos (and even link them to other bogus sites) and the uninitiated would never know better.

For that matter, disinformation, or too much information is regularly passed in person at drop zones. On a fairly regular basis I have to ask "experienced" jumpers not to discuss skydiving with students because there are some things they don't need to know and shouldn't know yet. A level 3 student does not need to know the finer points of freeflying, or even backloops. Any student who tries one prior to level 6 gets the honour of repeating the level (at a minimum) and can talk to their "helpful friend" about who's going to pay for it.

By this period of evolution of the internet, most people have figured out that there is a lot of false information on the net. Anybody who assumes a skydiving site is any different needs to think about that a little more carefully. Compared to spam, viruses and credit card scams, there's a lot more at stake with this topic. Caveat emptor.

Like it or not, the vast majority of members are american, so you represent american skydiving. Didn't sign up for that? Tough. Better start lookin at what your shoveling.

What difference does it make what country we're talking about? Does gravity somehow work different elsewhere? I've jumped in a few different countries, and the laws of physics seemed pretty universal. Some of the human laws vary, but again, caveat emptor.

You want to hold HH responsible for what gets posted here? Are you going to go after everybody who runs a NNTP server that carries the rec. newsgroups?

Wassa matter? Nobody goes to your web site?

Same goes for working with power tools. Checked your profile, maybe you should be the ultimate authority on skydiving advice around here, seeing as how you have LOTS of jumps.

Truth be told, I have never met Sangiro, but from the little I have had to do with him on this site, I do not think that I am going to like him when I do eventually meet him. I actually imagine him to be a rather autocratic fellow wih a small god complex. (now I am going to be ostracised :P)

BUT - the only "advice" he has ever really given here seems to be "Don't run with scissors". Maybe you should take it to heart.

He does seem to appoint competent people to moderate the "advice forums". You will notice that I don't post there - seeing as I don't have LOTS of jumps. I do read them. What would you rather have - no advice?

s'OK, dude -- you said you wanted to meet me. I'll still associate with you :D.

There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

Yeah, except Montana.

I definitely fell faster in Montana.

I know it's not really its own country, but Montanan's think it is.

Are all the lips in New France as brown?

Ohh ouch, I am soo hurt.

Fox, not really sure what your problem is, but in stead of just spewing negative comments. How about some recomendations to fix these, what you perceive to be, problems?

It is always easy to say something is bad. Now come up with something to fix it?
