mujie96 0 #1 August 27, 2003 So I'm trying to get rid of my first canopy which was kind of a waste of money since it was huge and I didn't put many jumps on it. I had it rigger inspected and found out it has more than 1500 jumps on it...but somehow it only had 700 when I bought it? Right. Not so honest people suck. Its all good...karma.... I just needed to vent. Just keep swimming...just keep swimming....
PhillyKev 0 #2 August 27, 2003 How could he tell how many jumps it has? It may have just not been treated well. Exposed to lots of sun/heat, etc.

jtval 0 #4 August 27, 2003 I know that the desert dust really kicks the shit out of canopies. maybe it was just jumped in a crappy area. either way it sux b/c if its in that condition theres not much resale valueMy photos My Videos
mouth 0 #5 August 27, 2003 So give it to someone who really can't afford one and allow them to use it. Then you'll at least get satisfaction in knowing you did something good from a bad situation. -- Hot Mama At least you know where you stand even if it is in a pile of shit. mnischalke 0 #6 August 27, 2003 to come up with that number did he use his magical crystal ball or did he call and ask the mystical fairies who fly around with a little silver lap counters in their hands counting jump numbers on canopies? Seriously, climate of use alone can make 700 look like 1,400 according to gear manufacturers I have talked to. Being able to come up with a number of jumps on a canopy just by inspecting it is quite a bit of a stretch unless he's got some carbon-dating machine in his loft. Did your rigger happen to offer you a favor and take it off your hands for $XXX.00? mike Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills--You know, like nunchuk skills, bow-hunting skills, computer-hacking skills. trigger 0 #7 August 27, 2003 So give it to someone who really can't afford one and allow them to use it.*** Smooth move!I was thinking of doing that with my old COE-D170 thats been in my closet for the last 3years...Conned out of £300 as a student and i wouldn't sell to anyone as i don't think they'd thank me for it as the flare is non existent and landing it is a black art...CHOP WOOD COLLECT WATER. smiles 0 #8 August 27, 2003 How many jumps did you make with it?? My first canopy was a 220 cruise-lite and I made 900 jumps with it myself before giving it to an accuracy jumper that could not afford to buy (his 220 had over 1500 jumps) He is such a sweet heart and it is so good to see it is still being used. Also have a delta-cloud in the closet with only 400 jumps- think I will donate to home d.z. for students. SMiles
mujie96 0 #9 August 27, 2003 Purchased from Louisiana..so maybe... I gathered that the estimated total was based on the (lack of) porousity, at least that was the gist of the statement made by the inspector. I made less than 20 jumps on it. Loaned it to someone who probably didn't add more than 50. Anyway I just needed to vent. Sorry. Just keep swimming...just keep swimming....
airann 1 #10 August 28, 2003 QuoteSo give it to someone who really can't afford one How wonderful you and Trigger are. Absolutely awesome. I am just thrilled at this. Thank you for those thoughts on behalf of someone out there. JT -I almost bought an Alpha from a New Mexico person I met here in Texas a few years back. The lines were somewhat beige. I was advised against it due to the sand issue. ~AirAnn~
Zenister 0 #11 August 28, 2003 i've consistantly heard 1 jump @ Eloy = 2 else where and/or 1 season = 2 elsewhere, simply because of the potential damage from sand and sun..however that doesnt mean its exact in all circumstances for most canopies..... I agree give someone else a deal on it...if its not doing you any good might as well let someone else play with it...i'm not flying my sabre anymore, but i couldnt bear to let her collect dust while the season lasts, so theres a Biscuit with it on her back now... pay it forward....____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. SkydiveNFlorida 0 #12 August 28, 2003 Sux that u got ripped off. Exactly the reason i'm scared to think about buying used gear, it is still expensive, and there are no guarantees. So, i'll be saving soon, but i'm not sure I wanna drop a bunch of cash on a rig that might not serve me well. Good luck with ur next purchase! But, hey.. If you are able to afford to give it away, I agree that would be major cool of you. Plus, best part is, what goes around comes around:) (this goes for you giving the canopy, something good will come in return. . . And, if the person who sold it to you purposely ripped u off, well, bad karma is a bitch!) Angela.
freeflir29 0 #13 August 28, 2003 Sounds like when I bought my Stiletto. The guy (Lenny) from Kapowsin said it only had 200 jumps on it. Well....I got it...stareted jumping it...and before long I damn near had to chop it several times cause it opened like shit. Well.....I finally measured the lines....I stopped when the bottom part of the brake lines (Before the Cascades) was 4 inches too short. I got it relined and it's a great canopy. $256 dollars later....after paying $900 for it originally. I find it hard to believe the lines shrank that much in 200 jumps.... Asshole....... PhreeZone 20 #15 August 28, 2003 Did you measure the lines before you jumped it? And Spectra shrinks 2-3 inches in 150 jumps easy. I've had to let my breakes out 3 times already and will do it again this weekend due to shrinkage of the lowers.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
