Hey Ivan, in what part of NYC do you live?
I live in NJ, but I'm close to the city, like ~30 mins away.

If BillVon can gloat about his 1.2 million jigawatts, then I can gloat too.
Power outage not affecting me, gotta love the generator. My ac is running, along with the TV, all the lights in the house and of course my computer.
This just in, Gray Davis has accepted responsibility for the blackout.

Another reason I don't think it is terrorism is that they could get way more bang for the buck in the wintertime.
.
Power demand is way higher in the summer.
Expect a baby boom next May.

The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.

Or a ridiculous number of lawsuits, some men were 'staring' at women for more than 6 secs during the confusion.

Don't believe the media, It's the gremlins I tell ya... for those who claim aliens, I have this to say - Its a conspiracy, the gremlins do the power outages and the aliens will be the responsible ones for the baby boom.

They're still sticking to the lightning theory as far as I can tell. However, I think it's the Blaster-A computer virus, myself!

Come on, everyone knows that it was aliens who knocked out the power for the terrorists but Bruce Willis and Will Smith managed to save us all without anyone knowing, jeez
On a side note, thanks to all the workers involved in getting the power back up, I've got power after only about 7 hours without it! You guys rock!

its bill gates! he shut down the computers in the power grid.
Nah, he's testing the prototype of Skynet. Given the actual level of testing of some MS products, I'd expect a beta version of Skynet to be released next week

There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

Now this is freaky. At 1:10pm PST (I live in CA) the hospital where I work had a brief flicker in it's electricity power! It activated the magnetic doors and our equipment APC's started to click on.
Then about 30 seconds later, the exact same thing happened again!
Our Plan Ops department checked it all out and said it was nothing internal that did it. It had to have come from outside.
Then, just tonight I discovered that this power flicker happened at the exact same time as the East Coast outage!
Any connection here, you electrical junkies??

I like the power outage... It thinned out our upgrades tonight. I get to breath for the first time in 2 weeks. Sorry it sucks for you guys out east, but I needed this break.

I live in B.C. Canada, where B.C. Hydro is part of a large power GRID that includes the Trans Alberta Power, this GRID stretches through the western United States and part of northern Mexico. Although these utilities are linked to BC Hydro, they are also linked to others GRIDs within the North American boundaries, it actually makes one big North American GRID. The danger is that even if BC Hydro could actually totally prepare, a failure within this GRID could cause such a drain that the effects could be felt here in BC
A failure in California power knocks out the power in all of the northern part of the state. The grid is switched in such a way that a complete drain happens to Oregon and brings that part to its knees, and before BC Hydro can make any adjustments the entire West Coast is in complete darkness...............
re: before BC Hydro can make any adjustments?

Apparently some electrical junkies have the ability to make adjustments on time...........

ahhh, it really has to do with the software?
