jbrasher 1 #51 November 1, 2007 Just prior to the Nationals Perris 2000? They were grounded. A 4 way team 3 out of 4 fired? I might be wrong. Red, White and Blue Skies, John T. Brasher D-5166
pinkfairy 0 #52 November 3, 2007 Quote I just wonder how many men like these exist in the world?:) Are they all this macho-like type?:) And, if serious, is it common for very experienced skydivers to refuse from AADs? And do you think it makes any sense?.. They are all over the place, and definetely not only in skydiving: "I can drive at 120 mph on my motor bike because I'm so good!" Haven't you noticed? And people still land with nothing out and without an AAD or with the AAD turned off. It happens, it's in the incident forum. The AAD is just a machine, not an angel that will jump out of your reserve container and save your life if you mess up. But it makes sense to get one, as the chances are that they will do more good than bad. And people can choose not to get one. It's their choice, but I really think that "I will never make a mistake!" is a stupid excuse. Relax, you can die if you mess up, but it will probably not be by bullet. I'm a BIG, TOUGH BIGWAY FORMATION SKYDIVER! What are you?
Hagen 0 #53 November 3, 2007 well said!personally for me AAD is smth that I don't think about during a jump. but I believe that we should use ANY thing or measure that can help us survive. maybe it's just because I'm a fighter - I mean my life positiontherefore people refusing to take the measures are at least incomprehensible for me - if not suicidal or stupid:) actually, the guys I mention in my first post don't seem to be suicidal, nor stupid, so I just cannot understand them... the funniest answer for me is 'I can't afford it' variant:) guys, I'm from the country where people cannot afford many things:) but AAD is required here, so anybody wishing to jump manages to afford it;-) so I think it's just a lame excuse - sorry if this could offend somebody
diablopilot 2 #54 November 4, 2007 You do know that there is a largish population that thinks your crazy, suicidal, or just plain nuts for jumping from an airplane in the first place? Leave those of us that don't want to jump AAD's alone.---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. billvon 2,991 #55 November 5, 2007 >therefore people refusing to take the measures are at >least incomprehensible for me - if not suicidal or stupid:) I have, in the past, jumped with three parachutes! I've also jumped with bailout oxygen, flotation gear and a compass/GPS. (Not all at the same time.) But if you want to jump with only two canopies, or without oxygen, or without flotation gear, go right ahead - I won't call you suicidal or stupid, even if you don't take every measure to ensure your safety. peckerhead 0 #56 November 5, 2007 Quote therefore people refusing to take the measures are at least incomprehensible for me - if not suicidal or stupid Wow! I must be suicidal. I have jumped without an AAD for almost 27 years but dammit I just can't seem to kill myself. I must be doing it wrong.
Hagen 0 #57 November 5, 2007 I take my word back for a while 'cause we agreed with one one of the guys from my first post that we'll come back to this discussion when I have 4000 jumps
