we have an an-124 come into nashville several times a year. he comes in and picks up large wings that are made at Aerostructures, a company on the freight side of the nashville airport that makes different airframe components. Once that 124 flew low over my house (we're just a short drive from the airport) and I thought i'd shit my pants. so frickin huge.

C-5ski. :D

One has been at Boeing Field a couple of times in the past few years.

Yeah, I've seen it at Paine Field in Everett. They were using it to deliver 777 engines from Rolls Royce. I know a few inspectors who actually boarded the thing, they said it's really primitive inside. Like hand cranked cables to open the doors. the things also a fuel hog, it's got a very short range for it's size. Probably run out of gas before it even got a load of jumpers to altitude.

Winnipeg is a fairly small city (+/-700,000) with a centrally located airport.... I live in a 'good' central neighborhood but one that puts me almost directly under the final aproach of most of the big planes.

Esarlier this spring, a C-5 came in on final, scratching the 600 foot (weather network reported) cieling ... "same shit"??? I see C-130's all day long and the odd 747 but YIKES I want those things to be friendly when I see them up close like that ...

...and then there's the days when the visiting US Military don't really heed the 'shhhhh' rule and wind their F-16's and F-18's up and it feels a bit like an airshow - except that they climb so fast that they're 'all noise and no show' [:/]

I always ask.... 'could I jump that' when I hear the sound all around...

Just wait until you see an EA-6B come by. Except for the U2 I don't think I have ever seen another plane that makes SO MUCH noise...yet goes SO damn slow! :D

got some more pics for ya of this monstrous jumpship... I'm tellin ya, this thing has big-way written all over it (too bad it's in Russian... but it does list a phone number on the fuselage, maybe we can have it delivered for WFFC 2004?)

Sorry for the plethora of pics, i'm just fascinated by how huge this thing is... (maybe that's b/c I have a small... um, wait... is my inner monologue turned off again?)

This plane was supposed to come to holland last week, but it got cancelled due to some engine troubles.

Airplane-nuts from all over europe had come to holland.

What's quite funny is that this freaking huge plane only needs a short runway.
But take-off sort of happens in 2 stages.
First it needs enough speed to get the wings flying (the realy droop down when it's on the ground) and then when the wings are flying they finaly lift the whole plane..

Damn cool..
