BBKid 0 #13 August 7, 2003 It's just to do with colour contrasts. If a square is surrounded by very light colours it will naturally be percieved by the eye as darker than it actually is, and the reverse happens if it surrounded by darker colours. If you want to test it, press PrtSc, then paste the image into an image program, and use the colour grab function (not sure what it's called), check out the percentages of red, green, and blue, then do the same for the other square.
