Negative People

Recommended Posts

Why is it that some people seem to feed off of negativity?? I know that everyday isn’t sunshine and happiness but Geez Louise; I know that it isn’t always rain clouds and lightening either.

I just got back from training a group of school lunch ladies on how to use their new Point Of Sale system and I feel like I’ve just gotten back from climbing Mt. Everest. It’s amazing how that one loud negative person can just drain the energy from the room. I swear that this lady hated the world. You’d think I was giving her a crash course in microbiology or something rather than telling her how to sale a large fry instead of a small one. No matter how much positive feedback I gave her on how well she was doing, she’d just grunt out another negative response. I consider myself a patient person but I swear I felt like telling that if she stopped her biatching she might see that it wasn’t really that bad.

I understand that trying anything new can be scary, but I believe that with trying anything new, it should be approached with a positive attitude because it might just have a positive outcome. But I guess that’s just me. [:/]

Forgive me, I just had a momentary venting session….I’m gonna go get some B&J and a bottle of Tequila to calm my nerves... :P

It can be a matter of group dynamic or situation.

For instance, at the place where I usually work monday through friday I have this sort of bad rap for being a jaded person. In reality, I think it's because I've been around a long time and have seen what does and what doesn't work and when somebody hits me with a "new" idea, I can usually point out that the reason we don't do something that way is because we've tried it before, it didn't work and our current processes were evolved over the last 45 or so years. I mean it as "don't screw around with success when the system is working".

Some people take that as negative. That's ok. I know they'll probably be moving on in the short future anyway and I hope they don't screw things up before they leave.

I love the Company, but some of the people that are "just passing through" piss me off.

On the other hand, people that actually have worked with me for a long time know that I'm looking out for the Company's long-term best interest and they see that as a positive thing.

In some ways, I can understand what you're saying. But in this situation she was the only person that was negative about the new software, where as everyone else (even folks who'd been around longer than her) were totally psyched about the new product. It would take them from manually counting paper lunch tickets & snack coupons to each child just swiping a card and a system keeping track of it all for them. I guess some folks just don't like change.

I may be a little naive in my thinking but if something has never been tried before or even if it was tried once before, just give it a chance to see how it pans out. If it doesn't work then you can be the one to say I told you so. But if people stopped trying every time something didn’t work or never wanted to try anything new, where would this world be today?

Scary thing is, that might work! I have several customers that have nothing good to say, bitch about everything, and like to abuse the salesperson (me!) for things not in my control. With one in particular, I tried positive feedback, joking, and then excessive politeness. He got worse. I speak with my customers at least 3 times a week, usually much more, and finally I had enough. I told him that if his goal was to be the biggest pain in my ass, it was working. Got his attention. Next time I called him, he apologised and has been decent - and occasionally even funny! - ever since.

Regardless, hopefully you don't have to work with her often. I also feel for the people who have to work with her every day :S

Want negativity become a high school teach, more specifically years 9's,
Biggest bunch of moans and whingers to grace the face of mother earth>:(:P
Then in year 10 most of them settle into noice little humans
I mean these shits are oppositional just for the sake of it.

For instance, I work with the "bad" kids in the school, they all ride BMX bike and one day I suggested that we do that instead of class work, they all compained and bitched about it.

They do it constantly:)
You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky)

I know that everyday isn’t sunshine and happiness

In my world, it's sunshine and happines, with chocolate, bubble-gum, licorice, fast cars, blue skies, gentle breezes, and really yummy peaches...of course I think California has something to do with it...:P

but this is an example of why my day is full of tax fun

"Of course the truth is that the congresspersons are too busy raising campaign money to read the laws they pass. The laws are written by staff tax nerds who can put pretty much any wording they want in there. I bet that if you actually read the entire vastness of the U.S. Tax Code, you'd find at least one sex scene ("'Yes, yes, YES!' moaned Vanessa as Lance, his taut body moist with moisture, again and again depreciated her adjusted gross rate of annualized fiscal debenture"). Sounds just like Boeing. There's always one in every group there who thinks that whatever it is you've got to say is "so unfair". It never fails either, it's always the biggest fuckoff in the bunch, makes you wish you could just shoot them and drive on... I guess life is full of just enough people like that, the trick is not to let them get you down.
