weird skydiving dream...

Recommended Posts

ok, i have no idea what dreams are all about. If its stuff your memory is getting rid of, or just random shit, but i had a very odd one last night.

I was in a Skyvan all ready to jump, it was a full load and we were heading up to altitude. in a waking state i have no idea who the people were, but in the dream they were all good friends. We were throwing something around in the plane in a kind of 'catch' game. It go thrown to me and i jump up to catch it. Somehow tho, when i jump up i fall out the plane...

i'm in free fall so thinking calmly i look at my alti 3.5K, no worries no problem here. throw out my pc and wait. and wait, and wait... i look up and see a chute in the first stage of opening, but it isn't. just there, doing nothing. still falling i check my alti 1K. I decide i have to try something and go for a cut away. I yank at the red pad, but it seems to have a really long cord on it :( i get it to arms length and its jammed. i'm furiously tugging on it, but it wont come free. Eventually it does and deply the reserve. very close to the ground. nice opening and i think i landed it ok (the dream was a bit hazy from here) the next bit i remember is laughing with my friends about it, and kiting up for the nect jump!!

During the first part of the free fall i felt really calm, but when the cutaway handle got stuck there was a reall sense of terror :(

anyone got any ideas, or am i just fucked up?

I know what you mean

I have had some really weird dreams myself;
1 dream myself and a friend where standing on a platform under a hot air ballon, and only put our rigs on seconds before we jumped - I remember feeling petrified that I would fall before i had my rig on.

It was the most peculiar dream because ppl that I have not seen for years where skydiving with us.

I just think It is our over active imaginations, I have wanted to jump a balloon for a long time and that is probally what prompted it.

My skydiving dreams tend to be extremly lucid. Usually I'm watching someone else in freefall form the cameras point of view as if I'm watching a video.

The funniest one that I'll never forget begins with me in freefall flying headown. At the time i had the dream I couldn't hold a decent headdown por nada. Anyway, I'm flying headdown and looking at the horizon when my final alarm on my protrack goes off so I freak out, go to my belly intending on throwing out. When I look down, I can't see the ground as if I'm in a cloud. Then I wake up, open my eyes to pitch blackness, only to realise for the first time that my alarm clock sounds very similar to the final alarm on my protrack.

all I could do was laugh

In 19 years of jumping I have had countless "bounce" dreams. They don't come around very often, but they are quite vivid. I never get hurt, always walking away amazed in my dream that I had done so. Like you, the whole opening/landing part of them is fuzzy.

I was a little put off by one dream I had about 8 years ago that involved me seeing someone else bounce. In the dream I walked over and saw his face. It was someone I know, which bolted me awake. That person recently retired from jumping, so he is safe now and I am no longer wary of the whole thing.

really scary...
I dreamt I was jumping with a friend and he was taking pictures of me... I saw a coud so I told him to hold on a sec... tracked to the cloud, lied on top of it, he took the picture and then we jumped form the cloud again...

"bounce" dreams are odd. I had one last week where I got low and went straight for the reserve handle (nice to know I can do the right thing even in a dream) funny cos I had a really long reserve cable too and had to pull it a long way before it fired. I hit hard on line strech but was fine and just got up and walked about. I was embarrased cos I was dumb enough to have gone low. Another guy had done exactly the same as me on the same load and hit on line streach and had hurt himself, but was just sorta hopping round rubbing his ass where it hurt - really odd.

Had another one a few months ago where I had double total or something and hit at terminal. Then the really odd thing was that I could still see people wandering arround me even though I had hit. It was like one of those computer first person shoot-em-ups where you can still see the baddies walking arround after your dead if you dont hit restart.

Guess its just our heads dealing with this dumb shit we do.

i have also had some weird skydiving dreams. the one that sticks w/ me the most that i was in the air w/ 100's of others. they all formed a huge tunnel (similar to a tornado) and i was falling through the middle of it. when it came to pull, no one around me pulled. i just trusted them and didn't do anything either. we ended up falling into the middle of the ocean and just sinking, sinking, sinking. yet, i wasn't afraid cuz others were down there w/ me. i started to panic when i could no longer hold my breath, but at that point i was no longer shooting downwards, i was starting towards the surface. then i woke up. [:/] unsure what that one means.
i took some pysch courses on freud's dream theories, and well, i still have no clue what i make of dreams.
well, at least they are entertaining and fun to share w/ others.

I'm certainly no dream analyzer or anything, but it seems to me that dreams of bouncing, or going low, or whatever, show what your afraid of. For me it was bouncing. Some part of your subconsious mind still hasn't accepted the fact that it could happen. My dreams were of me throwing out low and watching the canopy snivel to impact. Strange think was, the lines were a good 300-400 feet long. So I'm looking at a little canopy sniveling 400 feet above me. Of course I walk away with no problems. Once I got comfortable with the idea that things can go wrong, the dreams went away.

Edit: Found it. I was looking for my post about the wierdest dream I had. It made no damn sense at all. Post 6 of the thread.

Eerily close to my latest weird one Lynn:

[background, I've had a pc in tow and a 'mild' horseshoe. I jump a Raven 2 as a main but really 'belong' under a 170 Sabre 2 or similar]

Much like that scene in Dropzone, I get one busted/cut riser, chop, and get a stuck slider on my reserve giving me a snivel till flare time. I riser flare a killer swoop downwinder that ends in a tandem-master butt slide trenching into the peas. I'm feeling like I've just seriously cheated Death and freaked about it, my jumpsuit hanging off me in shreads like I've dumped a sportbike at speed or something..

DZO and I go into the packing room and pound a shot o Tequila (it's a morning jump). As we pound the second shot, there's the sound of a Very Large plane at our apron ... it's the Russian Military in an Antonov AN-124 looking for loadfill. DZO tells me to 'get back up and use his rig (Samurai 120) - after my reserve ride swoop I'm qualified' :o. I clear and pull from HIGH altitude, the canopy feels slow.... swoop the cookie
