Nemo 0 #1 November 17, 2011 Hi Friends, I am about to sell a main canopy, and was wondering if there was a useful or preferred method to prepare it for shipping. Is there such a thing as the 'rigger roll'? If yes, is it useful in this situation? I would be most grateful if someone could explain the technique and answer the above questions. Many thanks, Dale
aliencico 0 #2 November 17, 2011 Dear Sir, The technique is quite simple, but if You have any doubt, please contact with a local rigger, or look for it at Pointer´s Parachute Manual: - Check main canopy, filling the Damage Chart, and doing the Line Check. - Put the canopy on the floor, or packing table, in a lateral manner, like the first step for performing a Side Pack, air intakes together, A Lines one above other, B, C, and D Lines, the same procedure; Steering lines together. - Roll, instead of pack, the Noise, or Air intakes, into A, and up to B Lines. Roll into the Tail into D Lines, and up to C Lines. - Disassembly the suspension lines from the suspension bands, using a Line Checking board. - Make a Daisy Chain up to the canopy, putting the lines between the rolls. - Continue rolling for secure the Daisy Chain. Make the adecuate vertical folds needed for insert the canopy into the delivery package. - Include Damage Chart Remember: A canopy is from the airfoil to the suspension line Links, Maillon rapide, soft Links..., included. You must not delivery with the Steering toggles, due they become part of the Harness/container System. Hoping to have aided a bit Juan Fraile-Nuez Military Parachute Rigger (ret.) NWFlyer 2 #3 November 17, 2011 Having recently bought/sold a couple of canopies, they were just put into plastic bags (a garbage bag works fine) and then into a sturdy box. As a buyer, I'd say the thing I'd appreciate the most is that you send the canopy on the links and, even better, with the line groups attached to a card (and labeled). It makes it MUCH easier for the buyer to sort things out."There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke
Nemo 0 #4 November 22, 2011 Thanks to the two posters for your input. I was only looking for info on the rigger roll, but am very happy to have the refresher on the requirements for selling a canopy, and what is included/not included. I don't have a copy of Poynter's handy, so the other bit of info is most welcome!
