kallend 2,105 #26 July 25, 2003 QuoteSo, I'm going to spend today and either tomorrow or Sunday around Chicago. What should we do? Or if anyone out there has any good ideas, let me hear them (Andyman...Piriya...Erica....give me some ideas, dammit!) (My work is done, nobody is here, so excuse the post whoring!) See the sharks and whales at the Shedd Aquarium. Treasures of Egypt at the Field Museum. Go to the zoo. Free Mozart concert in Grant Park tonight (have a picnic on the lawn). Go on the architecture tour. Swim at Oak Street beach or North Beach. Shop North Michigan Avenue. Dine at the top of the Hancock Building. Take a boat trip on Lake Michigan. Ride the Ferris wheel on Navy Pier. Party all night on Rush Street.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.
craichead 0 #27 July 25, 2003 Unfortunately, and as usual, I have to work on Saturday, but hopefully I'll be joining you later in the evening! You, Andy and Andy's friend better cause a lot of trouble downtown. -P P.S. -- We should have PIE on Sunday!!! __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)
jumpwally 0 #28 July 25, 2003 Never mind chicago,,,you'll have more fun hanging out at the dz,,,,,,,,,people are nutz downtown,,,if you want to see the sad side of humanity , then go downtown,,,otherwise avoid it.............wallysmile, be nice, enjoy life FB # - 1083
craichead 0 #29 July 25, 2003 I happen to live downtown, and I don't really consider myself "nutz." The city is as cool as you want to make it, and I much prefer the city than the 'burbs. The DZ is always cool, but it isn't the only place worth going to in the world. -P__ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)
twoextreem 0 #30 July 25, 2003 Where are they offering trapeze classes and free salsa/jitterbug classes? Sounds like a lot of fun!! I did the Navy Pier thing a couple of weeks ago, we had a blast ... but the Ferris Wheel is sooo overrated!!! Beer Garden and live music is really kewl!!! And don't forget the people watching ... ouch!!! Whatever you do, have fun!!!
Eiley 0 #31 July 26, 2003 QuoteYou forgot the "other" choice in your poll-- See if you can catch Blue Man Group! The Blue Man Group came and did a skydive at Hinckley last year. Midweek, very low key, no video at their request (except for their makeup artist). They had to come out a couple of times because the weather crapped out on them the first time. If you have a couple of friends, the quadricycles you can hire from Navy Pier are a great way of tootling around the city and Grant Park. Also the "maze" thingy at NP is really trippy - we thought it would be stupid, but spent hours in there. You could get two tickets for the price of one by pinching a McDonalds tray mat when we were there. The aquarium is really cool too. Art Institute is home to the original 'American Gothic'. Just wandering around at night, listening to all those awesome buskers and popping into bars when tired is great. I loved Chicago. It's a clean, beautiful city and I never once felt unsafe there. A better option than the 110th floor of the Sears tower (which you have to pay for) is the bar on the 97th (?) floor of the Hancock building, where for the price of a beer you can gaze at incredible 360' views for as long as you like. Only the south view is spoiled by that bloody Sears tower! Above, of course, is purely a 'tourist' perception of Chicago! Cheers, Eiley nothing to see here
ryoder 1,590 #32 July 26, 2003 Having lived there for three years, I can assure you the best way to see Chicago, is in your rear-view mirror."There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones.
