jtval 0 #26 June 13, 2003 it also depeneds on which job he had? officers do ALOT of desk riding and babysittin' during their formulative years! I personally do not want to deal with the stupidity they have to deal with on a daily basis. Im in charge of a ahndful of younger trrops and sometime I wanna strangle THEM. If I had to deal with 1oo's of them I would be in prison. LOL (and I work with whats considered the top percentile of the thinking mans technician's.) I work with some pretty interesting toys and although I get bored when we have no work it can be a challenge. in the A.F a degree doesnt mean too much. I.E. it doesnt matter what you have a degree in just as long as you have one!My photos My Videos
jtval 0 #27 June 13, 2003 Has this dampered your jumping at all? go see my "have gear ,will travel thread" for the first few weeks it will hamper your jumping and depending what job you do you may not be easily available to jump while you are in training. but once you are "IN" the air force it will ENHANCE your jumpiing! My photos My Videos

jeremyneas 0 #30 June 13, 2003 Ok Casie, Your an educated person so you get to do the officer thing. 3 ways... 1st Academy...too old, 2nd ROTC...already did college...finally OTS (Officer Training School). You have to see a specific recruiter about it. It's not like joining as an enlisted puke, you can't sign the paperwork and be in basic a few days later. You have to put an application in almost a year in advance...and then it has to be approved. Got an engineering degree?!? If you do your chances are good. No? Then less than 50%. Your app gets to go through about a half a dozen boards and is either yea'd or nea'd. Call any recruiter to get the officer recruiters number. Your starting a little late, and probably won't have a highly promotable career so don't expect to retire anything above an O-5 (which isn't to say an O-5 is bad). Oh, and if anyone asks you why you joined the military...the wrong answer is "my career went into the crapper". See ya, J.Neas

ThighMan 5 #32 June 13, 2003 Hello Casie, I'm Patrick. I'm currently on active duty Air Force and have been for the last 18 1/2 years. I am enlisted and if you have any real questions, please drop me a line and I'll answer them. As for the other stuff, basic is not difficult but it can be a little rough. Not like Marine basic but they have added some interesting stuff lately. As for the job that you want, get it in writing. With a four year degree, look at the officer side. It will depend on the degree but normally the Air Force will take it. Watch out for the other services. Each as the pros and cons but I have yet to hear someone from the Air Force say, "Gee, I wish I was in the Army/Navy/Marines." Drop me a line for more info. Airborne (Yes, I get the best of both worlds, Joint Unit (Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine)Airborne Blue Skies, No Wind Feet and Knees Together
DJL 235 #33 June 13, 2003 Yeah, I know what she was talking about and that there are other things to do in the AF. Still that doesn't make it any less funny of an idea that someone going into the military would worry about getting their feelings hurt or consider the uniform to be an issue. Having graduated from VMI I saw firsthand how much someone can fuck with your head. For example a guy who was about 6'5" and big crying because he let someone a year older than him get into his head and stir. That's nothing like what you'll get at AF boot. I imagine they're just a teeny bit more professional."I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
wingnut 0 #34 June 13, 2003 QuoteHas this dampered your jumping at all? baa75 0 #47 June 13, 2003 QuoteI'm thinking of joining the airforce I do have a 4 year degree & just turned 28 this month. Does anyone want to give me pro's con's on any of this, it would really help out tremendously. Hi Casie...first, you just turned 28...the cut off age for the AF is 27. You had to have started Basic training before your 28th b'day. However, the cut off age for OTC (Officer Training School) is 33. Physician, Nurse and Allied Health applicants must be in Commissioned Officer Training before their 40th. Since you already have your 4yr I suggest you go officer. Its a whole different lifestyle from enlisted. As markharju said, there are a lot of pros & cons. The military DOES own you…my ex couldn’t even get the time off for our wedding! We actually had to get married at 9am because he had to be at work that afternoon! Living on base was nice. I’ve seen Army barracks and they don’t compare to the AF “dorms” Yes…Dorms! They are just as nice if not better than many college dorm rooms! I also got to play with some fun weapons that most people have never even heard of. Don't worry too much about being in shape, Basic will get you there. Its not that hard but it will shape you up. Do you have any ideas what you want to do for your job? They do try to push you into jobs they need to fill & a few things like that are slightly different for girls than for guys. I haven't been actave duty in a few years but I'd be glad to answer any qn's you have anytime!Good luck & let us know what you decide! BettyAnn Getting married? Check out my website!
