normandycoast 0 #1 November 29, 2011 I'm curious how the yellow cable is secured inside the red cut-away pud. Anybody have a picture or a good description? Thanks much-John
councilman24 37 #2 November 29, 2011 Often (always?) one continuous piece of cable with a loop swaged in the 'middle' and a piece of webbing sewn into the seam of the handle through the loop.I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
riggerrob 643 #3 November 29, 2011 Most often the cable is wrapped around a piece of Type 4 tape (1,000 pound breaking strength or better), then that tape is sewn to the Cordura with multiple passes of zig-zagged E-Thread. At 8.5 pounds MBS, zig-zagged E-Thread quickly adds up to more than 1,000 pounds. Most cutaway handles also have a few layers of foam (the same foam as used in leg pads) to "bulk out" the handle. Some of the better cutaway handles include a plastic (MDS nylatron) stiffener to prevent the handle from folding under the harness. Finally, a few of the better cutaway handles (e.g. Vector 3) have a piece of steel tubing ... just to create more bulk.
