Ira 0 #26 June 12, 2003 QuotePeople become cops by choice. They know what they are getting into. why should i feel bad for their chosen profession? I'm not asking you to feel bad for their chosen profession. I am telling you to respect what they willing put themselves through every day. People tend to think police have an easy job of driving around in a car eating donuts.... the basic hollywood barney fife sterotype. I am saying don't believe it. NeedToJump 0 #27 June 12, 2003 As has been said it is difficult to judge if this shooting was justified from the video. I personally did not see Hudspeth turn and point anything at the police, but other people say he did. Police are trained to "act cool" when confronted with a situation like this, but with all the adrenaline rushing and with whatever transpired before the beginning of the video they may certainly have had RC. When you are being chased by the police and they are following right behind you with their guns pointed at you, the smart thing to do is to stop and not do anything to provoke them. Was the shooting and the way that it happened justified? Too hard to tell without knowing more. Did Hudspeth do ANYTHING to alleviate the situation? Doesn't look that way.Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
rehmwa 2 #28 June 12, 2003 I'm right in with Ira's comments mostly. However, you shoot until the person is down. This guy did everything wrong and chose to get shot. Worst thing in comments here is people saying "he should be fired" for 5 seconds of observations on multiple subjects. There was one comment like that here in the posting on this subject. What's with that? It happens all the time. Glad we have so many super experts on everything to make that call. ... whocares 0 #29 June 12, 2003 That is not an opinion it is a fact. I lived in Monroe from 1986-1989. Lets see, Edwin Edger was Governor, He is in prison now. David Duke, former grand wizard of the Klu Klux Klan, was a state Rep. Shall I go on? I can tell you story after story about that state. I hope things have changed. Yes I spent plenty of time in Shreveport too.

How can you even accuse the officers of that without knowing them? Well gee, there goes innocent until proven guilty and due process right out the window! Ha ha ha That was funny. I know a few dumb cops, but I don't know any dumb enough to try to "restrain" and uncontrolled person that might have a gun--Pants falling down or not. fudd 0 #34 June 12, 2003 I've watched the video a couple of time. The suspect turns and point something that looks like a gun at the officer to the left on screen. The officer ducks, and a split second later the other officer starts to fire. Since the first officer ducks, it seems probable that he thought the suspect had a gun. TheRus 0 #35 June 12, 2003 I grew up in Shreveport, LA also and I remember we used to joke about the death rate between it and Bossier City (neighbor across the Red River). Shooting Deaths in S'port in '90 - 74 (roughly) Shooting Deaths in Bossier City in '90- 4, they got shot in S'port but they made it across the bridge before they died. Rough state all the way around... Yeah, it's fine, we'll walk down the line. Laurel 0 #40 June 12, 2003 Yeah, babe, I know we grew up together. But remember during the time period you are listing, there was an increased amount of gang violance. Thanks to our police force, Shreveport was able to curtail this senseless lawlessness and violence...................................................................... BBKid 0 #42 June 12, 2003 Jeez, everyone's allowed to own guns, ergo lots of guns on the street, ergo cops need guns, ergo cops shoot people. I'm just glad I live in the UK, where cops wear nipples on their heads and whack you with a truncheon. I don't know what selection is required to become a cop in the US, but here to be in SO19 (armed police) you have to have been in the force for about 5 years, and you need extensive psychological evaluation before they'll even consider training you with a firearm. CrazyIvan 0 #43 June 12, 2003 If you see a bunch of cops like in this video, you get on your knees, hands behind your head and stay calm (even better if you do it in front of the cars so it gets recorded), if they shoot at you or kick you or whatever, then is ABUSE, but if you react like this guy, then face the consequences.__________________________________________ Blue Skies and May the Force be with you. TheRus 0 #47 June 12, 2003 Fair enough there. I left the state right after that year and I have only been back to S'port 2 times since. I am glad to hear that it is doing better. Lived in Marerro (New Orleans West Bank area for all you non-cajuns) in 92 and worked night shift in a rough neighborhood and got robbed more than once (usually about once a week until I started carrying a gun in to work). Bottom line is that the state IS a rough place. However, I hate to think how much worse it would be if the cops there (state-wide) were not the breed of folks that they are. Yeah, it's fine, we'll walk down the line. SadSue 0 #48 June 12, 2003 Well regardless of your comments people I think that that was totally unjustified. Cops choose to be cops. That was a racial shooting. If that was a hillyBilly he may have be hit once in the leg and handcuffed. Too many power tripping cops in the force, most join because they have a sense of right and wrong, That is just WRONG. The deserve some time in jail for that. I'm sure they'll make some big Blackman a lovely Bitch BOY. Whats comes around, goes around. Hope you don't get Banned! gusmacker 0 #50 June 12, 2003 QuoteThat is disgusting that officers would conduct themselves like that. The man in question is not threatening the officers at all. Do your officers not carry pepper spray? How about tazers? Do they not know how to use their batons? Too many questions to be asked about this. I truly hope that the officers in question get what they deserve. Whats more would you shoot someone in the back? Don't they call people like that cowards? Well if you look very closely at the 1st cars video you will notice they do NOT shoot until the suspect turns around with what looks like a gun in his right hand (silver, I know it was a cell phone before I viewed this video) but had I not I would have shot under the same situations. No shots were fired until the suspect turned around with what appeard to be a gun in his hand which would put the officers in danger and that is when they were given reason to fire.
