QuoteI never said i could spell. Enjoy that dump of a state. Oh yes, and let them know that the Civil War is over and the South lost.
Thank you, I'll pass that along to the other Southerners that we lost the Civil War. Lord knows we can barely dress ourselves in the morning much less read fancy 'ol history books. I'll just crawl back into my double-wide, get some good lovin' from Daddy and iron my rebel flag.
Better yet, I'll keep making fun of your ignorance on DZ.com as long as you post obtuse comments.

QuoteWell regardless of your comments people I think that that was totally unjustified. Cops choose to be cops. That was a racial shooting. If that was a hillyBilly he may have be hit once in the leg and handcuffed.
Actually, if it was a hillybilly that suddenly pointed what appeared to be a gun at the police, I am sure Mr/Mrs HillyBilly would be swiss cheese too. I don't think cops let white guys pull guns on them either.
But the story of a white cop shooting a white person just does not sell as many newspapers or advertisements. You just don't hear about as many of those.

You mean the War of Northern Aggression??

I haven't weighed in on the actual shooting because I don't really have an opinion. But I object to this:
QuoteWhen you put a gun and badge on and put yourself in harms way to protect those in our society then you can start talking shit about law enforcement.
You know better than that. People can talk shit about whatever they feel like. You just don't have to listen or agree. If we carry your analogy further:
You can't talk about the Holocaust because you aren't Jewish.
You can't talk about policy brutality because you aren't a racially-profiled black man.
You can't talk about the space shuttle disaster because you aren't an astronaut.
Etc., etc.
So by your own rules, you'd have little to say, and a big world telling you to STFU.
Clearly, that isn't right. So why don't you be fair about it and simply disagree with the person's post, rather than telling them they aren't entitled to an opinion.

Back up and look at where the "anybody who can do a few push ups and sit ups can become a cop" statement was made about the supposed lack of training LEO have. Thats what my statement that you took out of context is refering to.

Lou,
I know what they said. I don't agree with it either. You'll also note that I'm not criticizing the actions of the Louisiana cops. The sole issue I'm objecting to is that if someone is not part of a particular group (LEOs in this case), that they aren't entitled to have or voice an opinion. That is it.
However uninformed, misinformed or just plain idiotic someone may be, they still have the right to have and share their opinion. That is a good thing. Sometimes we fall into that group ourselves, and sometimes it just gives us the opportunity to laugh at a knucklehead.
Make more sense now?

The sad thing is that all this is true. I can not tell you how many people I met in that state think the Civil war is still going on. Most girls are married by 18, divorced by 20 and back with Pops, in the single wide.
I once talked to a girl from Louisiana and she asked her father this: Dad if I divorce Billy is he still my brother?
Ha-ha lighten up, this is the dam internet for Christ sake. Just having some fun. Oh yes, I fly my Confederate flag with pride, can run a trot line, skin a buck and a country boy can survive.

I personally have never had a police weapon drawn on me. But during my younger years I was pulled over and questioned quite a few more times than I felt I deserved just so they could ask me questions like "Who's car are you driving?" c'mon we all know that they know this before they pull you over.."
My cousin however was pulled over during one of the citys searches for a "black male" and put in a holding cell for 48hrs with no phone call. He was cavity searched and treated like a common criminal. My cousin hardly has ever had parking tickets. He later received a form apology letter from the city.
Rodney King's incident did nothing for the race situation between cops and black folk. It exacerbated an already tensioned situation to the max.
As a result of things like these most black people are scared of police. I know I have been in the past and when I go south of the border I still am a bit (the media does nothing to help this) And what do most humans do when they are scared? They run. What do cops do when they run? Shoot (ok so there is a little more to this but you get my drift). There is a constant recipe for disaster.
I hesitated posting to this because of several reasons.
1. I wanted to see some of your true colours as it were. I find that events like this make the biggot and the racist, and the supremecist easy to spot.
2. I thought that people would assume that I would take the suspects side because of our shared skin colour.
I am glad to see that for the most part the "true colours" of the people posting here are pretty close to what I have seen from them in the past and that most of you are keeping your heads on about this discussion.
And though I don't think that the suspect should have been shot 8 times. I do think that he was an idiot. Had he just been running I would have understood but he was walking with 3 units (at least 6 guns potentially pointed at him.) Stop and Drop was the name of the game that day: maybe he didn't get the memo. Another memo he maybe didn't get:The person with the gun pointed at you, makes the rules.
Note before anyone accuses me of being a Cop hater or anything I worked closely with our national police force for over a year. Very eye opening experience on both sides of the coin.
comments welcome.

Oh yes, i can take you to some of the best craw daddy holes around. ummm good.
The determining factor for me is that the suspect was not shot by the first officer when he had a hold of the suspect and a gun at his head. The suspect broke the hold and walked away. The second officer arrives in frame and both have their weapons drawn at a suspect who is walking away from them.
Although the suspect had a phone in his hand, the officers are justified to assume that once he turned his back, walked away, and didn't comply w/ their instructions that he may be armed. The suspect's failure to comply w/ the officers' instructions and quick pointing move got him killed.

I never said that, nor implied it. In fact my statement goes on to say that "they" are uninformed armchair quarterbacks. The jist of what I was saying is that unless you have a first hand knowledge of what type of training LEOs go through, you don't have a basis from which to make an educated evaluation of the incident. It would very much be the same if a Whuffo witnessed a few video clips of a skydiving accident and started saying that the guy's canopy was too small or that the other jumper had the right away. I never implied that anyone was not entitled to their opinion based on their not belonging to said group, just that it would be an uninformed opinion(speculation).

QuoteIt is fairly obvious that this incident could have been handeled in a number of different ways, none of which would require multiple gun shots. Thats my observation of the Video.
I disagree. Please enlighten me. What could the officers have done differently to solve the situation without further endangering their own lives?

Quote8 Shots excessive? NO. You keep shooting until the person is unable to shoot back. --which means dead or unconscious on the ground.
I agree. We had an incident in the army where one of our section patrols drew effective fire (three rounds) from a minibus with two occupants. They returned fire. Net result : 180-something rounds in minibus and both occupants dead. Overkill? Hardly, they kept firing until the minibus stopped moving. I suppose in the movies you would aim for the tyres while the other guy was shooting at you.
And in the movies you would shoot the bad guy in the knees when he points a gun at your partner. The cop on the right did the right thing. My only criticism would be of his marksmanship.
You people who judge so quickly have probably never been in shitty situations like this - you are every bit as scared as the bad guy and you have to rely on your training and the guys around you to get through it. Easy for others to second-guess with hindsight via the net from the safety and comfort of their work or home.
