I've been skydiving now for 3 months and have an A licence and think I'm an addict. I need money to fuel my addiction so I've had an idea.
My newish Renalt Clio is now worth £5000, which could be sold to give me money for a cheap banger my first rig, jumpsuit and a helmet.
Is this a good idea, or do you think selling a kidney would be better?

I was wondering what people have given up and are willing to give up to dive.

Sigh...I feel so ashamed...so dirty...but, okay...here goes:

I got my rating and became an IAD instructor. Oh, the shame of being a male air-whore. But, it's worth it.;)

if you become an addict you'll give up everything. your family, your friends, maybe you even loose your job because you spend your entire working-time in the internet surfing skydiving pages and post-whoring in dz.com :P

seriously: do you have to give something up? i think it's just a shift in priorities.

This is my story: I started skydiving last year, I spend most of the time post-whoring, weekends or whenever the weather is nice I go the dropzone and stay there ALL DAY, even if I don't get to jump, I lost my job about 1 month ago (laid off), however I'm STILL jumping and waiting for my rig, after getting my rig.....I'LL JUMP MORE!!!! (and cheaper since I won't need to pay for the rental), money comes and goes, but the excitement and experience is priceless.

I always thought I would be sensible and just pay for AFF as I had the extra cash. Didn't want to run up the credit cards or take out a home equity loan, but after my 1st Aff yesterday, that has all changed. Once you do something like this, everything else seems so ordinary...;)

When I was 18 I sold my stereo to my little brother to pay for my first jump course. Of course in college my roomate had a better stereo anyway and when I went home for summer break my old stereo was still available to use, so I got a good deal.

Definitely, sell your car. There is something about this sport that changes all of your priorities.

When I started, I was in college, trying to pay everything myself, and had no money. That didn't stop me from getting on every load and buying a rig.

I cashed in a small life insurance policy that my parents had bought me (didn't cover skydiving deaths, anyway), begged for an increased student loan for "transportation" purposes, and packed parachutes.

While I may still be paying off the student loan and credit cards for the next twenty years, I wouldn't trade the great life and experiences that I have for anything.

The logical part of my brain wanted to save $10,000 before my AFF course to pay off my debts etc.
Instead my debt has stayed about the same as I just bought a rig.
Mind you this is the same 'thinking brain' that says "Yeah! jump out! jump out!" when im at altitude. Stupid brain ahhhhh! What would he know?

What was I thinking?

Volunteered to deploy to Kuwait thinking the $$$ was going to be worth it! I'd rather be home with my baby and broke than sitting over here in this oven![:/] The $$$ is good though. So far - new canopy, new jumpsuit, and lots saved for my trip to the Eloy Holidy Boogie!B|
