PhillyKev 0 #1 July 18, 2003 I bruised my ribs last week, and it's been getting more painful every day. I've tried aleve, tylenol and aspirin with no relief. So I went to the doctor. He gave me a script for percocet. Which, if you don't know is a pretty powerful narcotic pain reliever. I've taken it before for an abscessed tooth, and know that it kinda makes you high, and can be VERY addictive if you take it too much. (I know a girl who is hooked on them and takes 10 pills 4 times a day). Anyway, he prescribed 1-2 tablets every 4 hours. That sounded like a freakin' lot, so I did some research. Turns out the recommended dosage is 1 every 6 hours. Man, if I took 2 every 4 hours I'd be an addict in a week.
thethinker 0 #2 July 18, 2003 I agree with you....sometimes the perfect idea is NOT to go to the doctors. I just learned a friend of my parents about a month ago was just fine. Wondering about the world, well she discovered she had a mole on her arm. They cut her open went thru chemo....and she now has 3 weeks to live....sad. Good job lookin up the info. Sebazz1 2 #3 July 18, 2003 I think you miisunderstood the doctor... He probably said drink 1-2 beers every 4 hours with your 1 percocet every six hours... J/K <---- Way to be heads up and check for your self, good job!

jlmiracle 7 #6 July 18, 2003 I went to a dr once that gave me cough medicine (I never complained about a cough). It was hydromet. Awesome stuff but the directions said to take 1 tbl spoon every 4 hours. I couldn't function after the first dose. How the hell am I suppose to work or drive on this stuff. I only took it at night. He was eventually relieved of duties. He apparently liked to over medicate everyone. I miss him. Now I have a sprained ankle (since May 2). It still hurts like hell and still slightly swollen. All I could get out of the dr. was some vioxx. Well, they stopped working about 5 days later and going to the dr is such a pain in the ass. Enough of my babbling. Feel better soon PhillyKev.Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
Muenkel 0 #7 July 18, 2003 Sometimes, doctors don't make themselves clear. If I am prescribed a narcotic pain reliever, I generally will take half what he prescribed and see if that works. Basically, he was telling you the max. you can take for a specific period of time. I'm sure he didn't give you an unlimited supply of percocet. If he did, don't forget to share. Anyway, feel better soon. I once tore a rib and it is painful as hell, especially when breathing. I usually will be on my way to my death bed b4 going to the dr.s. then when I do go I usually dont take the meds they give me I dont beleive in pill popping. most of the time all they do is cure the symptoms not the ailment! My photos My Videos
payback462 0 #11 July 18, 2003 QuoteCan I get introuble for adding a "1" in front of the "0" in the spot marked "number of refills" well then they just wont fill it since a class 2 narcotic cant be refilled without a new prescription
