I had a dream...

I died. I was shot, and I actually died. I felt everything. And all I remember is telling myself to breath, because I had stopped breathing in my sleep. It was actually quite scary.

Has anyone else dreamt about dying this vividly?

Its a good thing you remembered to breath, and I assume you woke up at that point. I hear you can actually die for real when that happens.

It happened to me once.. and I woke up with my whole body tingling.... like when your foot falls asleep and you bang it on something?

I think he meant die, as in if I hadnt remembered to breath. I can actually see how that could have happened. Thank God my body took over.

if it deeply bothers you - get some advice from a professional headshrinker. it's worth it

The dream wasnt actually violent. It was really weird actually, because I knew I was being shot. The girl (unsure of who she was) had a gun to my stomach, and was looking for the best place to aim, so I would die quickly. I didnt seem disturbed by it. And when she shot, I felt all the life drain from me, I stopped breathing and it went black..thats when I had to tell myself to breath..and when I woke up I stuggled to take a big gulp of air. I wouldnt say it affected me deeply. Although the not breathing thing was scary, I think it signifies something different for me. Like an end to something that has been troubling me..etc Although..you can't really be too sure..

Yeah but lucid dreams are the best!!! I get them often. As soon as I become self aware, I grab the first hottie and go at it. A dream may just be a dream, but hot sex in them still feels good...

... Just the same as the moment of fear and the adrenaline when you look up in the dream and see a gun barrel and then see the gun being fired.

Thats what i meant by not wanting to put au parallels. but from my experience dreams are a reflection of my everyday live encoded in symbols. for me dreams are the reflections of emotions connected with the patterns of my life - like how do i react in a specific situation and why i do so and what kinda emotion accompanies these patterns.

my friend explained to me that death in drreams can also be a symbol that a certain aspect of one's life has lost it's function and a new one is to come in a kind of transition to another level (which also made real sense for me)

but from what you've just posted i guess you are pretty close to "unveil the mystery" of that particular dream

I had a shooting dream, too- standing on a street in Paris, next to the Seine, a blond guy I don't know wearing jeans, an old German army camo jacket, and mirrored sunglasses walked across a bridge, pointed a gun at my friend on the sidewalk (on the other side of an SUV), then looked at me (I was frozen), re-aimed at almost point-blank range, and shot me in the throat.

The weird thing is that shot went through from the side, ripping the front of my throat out, as opposed to shredding my spinal column going out the back.

I fell face-down on the cobblestone street, which was cold and wet, and felt the blood coming out, which was warm and wet. I was facing the curb, lying in the shadow of the SUV (it was a Land Rover), and listening to the guy calmly walk away while my friend screamed for help. Then I heard the ambulance in the distance, with the European siren (nee-ner-nee-ner-nee-ner), and I kept blinking and thinking, "BREATH, just breath, keep breathing."

I woke up somewhere around there.

I have dreams that I die pretty often. when they start getting closer in cycles I get really weirded out during my AWAKE time. As if I am tyring to aviod it.
I get really safety conscious...funny though b/c I always think I am gonna get kiiled in a car accident when some drunken asshole t-bones me

but in the dreams it happens a multitude of ways!
it doesnt always let me sleep through the death but when I do its kinda like I leave my body and watch as things go on around me. kinda like I was a bystander and saw myself die!
then even in my dreams I think of all the people that I miss ( i contribute THIS aspect to the fact that I move ALOT and miss alot of people)

I had a dream a few years ago where I was shot in the chest from about four feet away. Knowing that dreams only take a few seconds, the apparent duration of this one was like 5 minutes. A friend of mine fired the pistol and then it went slow-mo like in the matrix (movie was not made yet ;-) The entire 'five minutes' consisted of my watching the bullet close the distance between us, strike and enter my chest, and me falling backwards onto the ground and dying. The sounds were not affected by the slow motion though... wierd 'cause when the bullet hit my chest, it sounded like a slab of meat hitting a table but the sound was over before the bullet had even broken the skin. I looked down (was able to 'see' in real-time) and watched it slip into me, felt it slowly pick me up off my feet from about the centre of my chest and back, carry me a few feet back and put me backdown on my feet when I feel rigidly backwards. Then I was looking at the sky, then I was thinking of my mother, then I was dying... then I was dead... woke up here... ALIVE obviously.
