grasshopper 0 #1 July 11, 2003 sorry to post something about skydiving in the talkback forum, but I need some advice. so on new year's day I had a cutaway on a pd demo velocity and wasn't able to recover it. after a few e-mails back and forth pd and I worked something out and the canopy was accepted as lost. so fast foward to july 4. someone who is no friend of mine came up to me and said it was found. the deal is a "friend" who does evictions supposedly found it in a storage locker. it has a green d-bag on it (an identifying feature) and is supposedly in great condition. but the problem is they want me to give $400 for the canopy, which was reported as stolen 6 months ago. what should I do? any ideas? LouDiamond 1 #5 July 11, 2003 I don't think your "friend" is really a friend. I would tell him that you have told PD that the canopy has been found and that the police will be notified that the canopy has been located for return to PD. He can let you return the canopy to PD or have the police come pick it up and return it. I think he will be more than happy to return it too you. There is no reason why your "friend" should expect to get $400 for it. EDITED TO ADD: I just thought of something. So that your "friend" doesn't somehow misplace the chute before the cops arrive I would do the following. Call the cops and let them know what the situation is and that you would like them to show up at X location. Call your "friend" up and tell him you wish to see the canopy(again if need be), ensure the police arrive at the same time you and your "friend" are looking at the canopy. That way the serial # can be verified and the officer actually has seen the chute and can hold it while PD is contacted via speed dial on your cell phone"It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
mouth 0 #6 July 11, 2003 Nice friend. Call the police and let them recover it. Make sure to inform them your "friend" is trying to scam you. Rdutch 0 #7 July 11, 2003 I had someone "liberate" my canopy from me also, lucky we had a witness, and the police were called, the person denied having it, and the detectives were brought in, he was offered arrest or return, he chose return. Good luck, and I would definitely call the cops on your "Friend". Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!

grasshopper 0 #9 July 11, 2003 QuoteNice friend. let me clear that up. he is not my friend, not by a stretch. his friend is the one who has the canopy, so I don't actually know where it is. otherwise... and pd knows about all of this. it is tempting to let karma take care of him, but it would be better to recover the canopy first. but if i see it flying anywhere near me...
