stolen velocity 96

Recommended Posts

sorry to post something about skydiving in the talkback forum, but I need some advice.

so on new year's day I had a cutaway on a pd demo velocity and wasn't able to recover it. after a few e-mails back and forth pd and I worked something out and the canopy was accepted as lost. so fast foward to july 4. someone who is no friend of mine came up to me and said it was found. the deal is a "friend" who does evictions supposedly found it in a storage locker. it has a green d-bag on it (an identifying feature) and is supposedly in great condition. but the problem is they want me to give $400 for the canopy, which was reported as stolen 6 months ago.

what should I do? any ideas?

Report them to the cops. There's no finders keepers law.

Skydiving is easy. All you have to do is relax while plummetting at 120 mph from 10,000' with nothing but some nylon and webbing to save you.

Well, if PD hasn't read this by now you might just want to call them and give them the info to go after it.

They want you to pay for your stolen merchandise? That's ridiculous! Whatever happened to people just doing the right thing?

I don't think your "friend" is really a friend. I would tell him that you have told PD that the canopy has been found and that the police will be notified that the canopy has been located for return to PD. He can let you return the canopy to PD or have the police come pick it up and return it. I think he will be more than happy to return it too you. There is no reason why your "friend" should expect to get $400 for it.

EDITED TO ADD: I just thought of something. So that your "friend" doesn't somehow misplace the chute before the cops arrive I would do the following. Call the cops and let them know what the situation is and that you would like them to show up at X location. Call your "friend" up and tell him you wish to see the canopy(again if need be), ensure the police arrive at the same time you and your "friend" are looking at the canopy. That way the serial # can be verified and the officer actually has seen the chute and can hold it while PD is contacted via speed dial on your cell phone;)

Nice friend. Call the police and let them recover it. Make sure to inform them your "friend" is trying to scam you. This is sad especially if your friend is a skydiver.

I had someone "liberate" my canopy from me also, lucky we had a witness, and the police were called, the person denied having it, and the detectives were brought in, he was offered arrest or return, he chose return. Good luck, and I would definitely call the cops on your "Friend".

get out $400. Tell him you want to trade for the canopy. Get the canopy back. Beat his ass, twice, and then take your money back. Plain and simple.
OR
you could just report it and let Karma handle it.

Nice friend.

let me clear that up. he is not my friend, not by a stretch. his friend is the one who has the canopy, so I don't actually know where it is. otherwise...

and pd knows about all of this. it is tempting to let karma take care of him, but it would be better to recover the canopy first. but if i see it flying anywhere near me...

Then I think it's time for names to be posted so that I don't get on the same load as him.

Check your passenger manifest on the big plane too. I'm sorry sir, you can't fly today because you were involved with the theft of my friends canopy. And I do appologize that were at cruising altitude, but you'll have to get out. ;)

I'm going to give him a little time before publicly smearing his name,

Seriuosly, why? It's not as though you're smearing the name of a good and honest person. Others who might come across this loser deserve to know who it is.

but I am not afraid to post his name.

Let's hope not.

Good luck.

so long as everything he posts is factual, does it qualify as a personal attack? facts dont always reflect well on everyone, but i dont think thats the same as saying..

Well, see, part of that is fact, part of that is opinion and part of that is an outright attack.

As long as he keeps it to the facts there's little problem -- until somebody comes back with an attack agaisnt him.

As mentioned already...call the police.

Although I would find it ever so satisfying to kick that guy's face in. But I'm sort of that way...a nice guy, a very giving guy, even refered to as a big teddy bear, BUT you fuck with me or a friend...you're in a world of trouble (for the anti-gun types: no not with guns. I took Tae Kwon Do for 4 years and am a good knife fighter too...)
