w4p2 0 #79 July 16, 2003 That's rat hat all right. Yeas I am, did it five years professionally, then 10 years with atmospheric units like Mantis, Duplus, Perry vehicles etc.. and ended up at the bridge of dive ships like Rockwater 1, Witch Queen, Stefaniturm, Aquamarine, Stena Constructor, Fennica, Nordica and a mile long list of others. For past few years I have been with Seaway Condor, a Stolt vessel working in deep water intervention to 3000m With two SCV-3000 units. You find more details on Stolt Offshore home pages if you want. Still do work dives during my time of with both diving gear and atmospheric units, but mainly just to keep the licensees valid. Now that I have got that one out of my system, to the real topics: 1) Use of silencer: Became legal in Finland roughly 10 years ago.... superb and recommended. Reduced the environmental noise impact to 0 and for instance in my case resulted to almost exclusive 22/rifle hunting of small game. Still illegal in US I think? 2) I do not know how it is now, but last time I was bow hunting in USA the use of cross bow was illegal (Louisiana 2000). In Scandinavia as well. I find it strange... because should I have a choice... stalking big game with CB would be my preferred hunting method. Experiences / opinions? 3) Hand gun hunting, illegal in Scandinavia for reason beyond my understanding. Would be excellent for stalking dear & moose in brush. Experiences? Well thats it for time being. Looking forward to your comments. Cheers JL ...hey wow! when do you start your next war?
 Amazon 7 #82 July 16, 2003 Wow impressive list of weapons... I inherited a fairly long list from my grandfather because none of my cousins ever really enjoyed hunting as I did, but I dont want to bore everyone with the details. I only use a couple weapons consistently year after year and am very good with them. Both were custom built for me. WE are free in this country to not HAVE to have all of our firearms registered on a list somewhere... remember this all started from a list of What is FREEDOM. I also have been hunting over 40 years and have been very successful. I do not hunt birds any more or small game, I prefer to only go after deer and elk, I will never shoot another bear ( when skinning it the carcass looked more like a human hanging there and the musk smell was horrendous) and would not think of shooting any species of cat( I prefer to just watch them and admire thier hunting abilities). neener neener to your flame. I guess you know your limitations.. and hunt within those limitations.. so if you can only make a 50 yard shot... cool. Just dont expect others to abide by YOUR inabilities/inadequacies. I KNOW how to use the weapons I have when I go into the woods. Most of the time I can stalk an animal to the point of getting a very good shot.... I still will ALWAYS shoot for the head.. its instantaneous.. and more humane without the possibility of the animal running off wounded... precipitating a long walk to find the animal.. and have a pile of less that desirable tasting meat. QuoteRuger KMK 678 heavy barrel / stainless with aimpoint and silencer ( My back pack poacher, used when out at the islands out of season to nick of a meal now and then) So much for YOUR ETHICS. A poacher is a poacher is a poacher.... period. Its breaking the law and that is something I have never done and will turn in anyone in a heartbeat if I see them doing it. Hand gun hunting is legal in Washington in some seasons. It is illegal to hunt any waterfowl with a rifle here only shotguns are allowed. Only Forest Grouse may be taken with a rifle. Crossbows are illegal as well, but there are very good archery seasons and some years I have hunted those. http://www.wa.gov/wdfw/wlm/game/hunter/huntregs2003.pdf Silencers are illegal in the US... SO now I understand a little more of your dislike of this country. Too many regulations that you see as not applying to you. No wonder you did not like it here. It just takes a special permit.
 steve1 5 #84 July 16, 2003 Hunting has been a very big part of my life since I was a youngster. Living in Montana all those years it was something most everyone did. I know there are a lot of slob hunters out there who have little or no ethics. This ruins things for those who are ethical hunters. My own personal ethics are to keep an animals suffering to a minimum. I want to kill an animal quickly and cleanly and use all the meat. This is really a pet peave with me. I hate people who take risky shots or waste meat. Lot's of people are down on trophy hunters. I can see there point. There are many trophy hunters with wads of money, who can afford the most expensive hunt imaginable, yet they could care less about the meat and are only interested in impressing others with what they shoot. I've killed lot's of trophy class animals, including some record class, but I still took home all the meat for my family to eat. Most trophy hunters hunt for a big animal because they are the toughest to find, usually the smartest, and are more of a challenge to take (not to just impress people). I know of some bowhunters who refuse to enter any record animal they take in any sort of record book. I still bowhunt, because it is much harder and more of a challenge than rifle hunting. I hate myself if I don't make a good shot. I try hard not to let an arrow fly unless I'm sure I can put it in the right place. To tell you the truth I'm having a hard time killing any critter lately. Maybe it's part of old age or something. I truly love getting out there, but the past few years I've been letting my wife and kids shoot the meat, while I packed it out for them. I still love to hunt birds with my dog, but I could care less if I ever kill another big game animal. I have about twenty-five heads mounted from the old days. It's nice being able to do your own taxidermy.......Steve1
 w4p2 0 #85 July 16, 2003 AMAZON: I do not now where you get your 50 yards from, but so kindly point to my post talking about one in order to refresh my memory. Also I do not recall saying I dislike your country. Frequently and in many posts just the opposite. However, that does not mean that I have to approve or like everything. So once again, please point out the post where general dislike is stated. With reference to use of ruger, you can call it as you wish, I actually call it "poaching" as well. What it really is, is survival. If I am in the middle of nowhere and everything else fails, it guarantees my meal... and I do not consider that as a crime as long as done outside of the nesting season. So maybe it would be more proper to call it my backpack survival tool. STEVE 1 Bow hunting is the real thing. However, back north it is restricted only to birds and rabbits, which I hope will change some day. AND FINALLY: Limitations on cross bow I do not understand. Accepting cross bow during the black powder or general season would for me appear justified.
