One of the gored Americans, Al Chesson, 57, from Pittsburgh, Pa., spent a terrifying half-minute being thrown around in the narrow alley leading into the bull ring that marks the end of the run.

How ironic, "Al ..Gored" B|

The fiesta, famed for its all-night street parties, dates back to the late 16th century ..."

This is exactly what I expected. This wasn't some kind of "cultural event" originally, it was a bunch of partiers who got drunk and said "Hey, this will be cool, we'll let these bulls out...". You know that is how it started.

Ah, yes...the source of most great culture, pranks. I figure that there was a 14th century Italian college kid with the Venus de Milo statues arms in his backpack jumping into the back of a carriage yelling "Let's get out of here."

Just as I suspected.

Next you'll say that rodeo's are cruel to animals too...

I don't understand some folks sometimes.

I don't know how the rodeo animals are treated, but I'm pretty sure they're not tortured and killed at the end of the event for the spectators' entertainment...

Sometimes it's hard to define "cruelty to animals" - I'm a meat-eater so I'm sure lots of people would give me a hard time about that (and I wonder about it myself sometimes)... but this "tradition" of the run of the bulls, followed by bullfighters stabbing them until they die a slow death, seems to fall in the obvious "cruel" category...

Now I'm not actually an activist or anything... I was just having a laugh at the people getting hurt while they were participating in such a nasty activity... (yeah I'm sure a lot of whuffos laugh at us skydivers when we get hurt, but at least we're not hurting anyone - or anything - else)

Hmmm... sounds like something a bunch of damn skydivers would do! :D (on a cloudy day ;-)

Come on....before long meat will be outlawed and if anyone looks at a cow the wrong way the hippie cops will arrest them. people people people

But torturing and killing lesser animals for entertainment is a NATURAL thing.

Monkeys do it. Dogs do it, in fact, many predators do. Heck even fuzzy cute little kittycats do it... Never seen a cat just play with a mouse or bird for hours, then kill it and leave it lay?

At least the bull fighters eat the bulls when they are done.

ah but the fact that the bull wins sometimes is what makes it even...of course they should probably be put out to pasture as a prize, instead we just turn them into leather and steaks..

i honestly believe you should be able to hunt anything you wish...in small numbers, with this spear. ;)

if we'd stuck to this rule there'd be far more animals and lots less humans in the first place, which would theoretically solve lots of 'problems' at once. >:(

My cat usually eats the things it kills, and if it doesn't... well I'd like to think that humans are more intelligent than cats, but when it comes down to it I guess you're right... we're really not... We are pretty much on the same level as monkeys and dogs and cats (if not on an even lower level)... oh well, nevermind... torture anything you feel like, because it is NATURAL after all... ;)

Yeah, I'm gonna shut up and go eat some chicken now... :o:)

Yeah, it's just kinda hard to feel sorry for people who get their kicks by torturing animals

yeah but technically, the people who are just running from the bulls aren't the ones torturing them...

and also, the bulls aren't usually "slowly stabbed to death." they are stabbed "lightly" a few times to get them angry, and then at the end, the bullfighters consider it a measure of skill to kill the bull as quickly as they can with one sword stab.

still, I admit its not very pretty.

I hope none of the people against bullfighting are people who like to go fishing. You know, where you drag the fish around the lake by a hook in its lip? Usually to attract fish, you impale a worm, or other small fish, on the hook first. A kind of preliminary cruelty to a smaller animal before torturing the larger one. :o

Some people eat fish that has been caught, fileted, sanitized, and wrapped. This way, they don't have the moral qualms about the cruelty of fishing because others do it for them.

hmm i don't like bull fighting

i've heard they dope the bulls up so they don't even have a chance.. then the spikes and stiff.. it really isn't fair

if it was a one on one match with it and the fighter THAT would be more entertaining..

That's not true, bullfighting is about tradition, courage, pride and skills, no respetable bullfighter would allow that.
