bull torturers

Oh how sad... poor little bull torturers getting gored by bulls... just makes me want to cry :)
Yeah, it's just kinda hard to feel sorry for people who get their kicks by torturing animals... maybe they should try skydiving - an adrenaline rush without the bad karma ;)

I'm sorry not being able to understand you, but definitely do not agree with you.

You are a meat eating person, and there is no difference of eating and just playing with your food before eating.

To me I could compare your comments with those of a whuffo, oh yea, poor skydiver, playing with dead and got killed....

Just my 2cts...

Blue skies y a los TOROS!!!!!

It might sound cruel but its tradition. I believe that we must respect the culture of each one of us and do not try to create the special person (according to our rules and measurements). Why dont we look to child that die because of mines or even hunger? Its more sad!!!

At least if you dont like it you may switch channel or skip to the next article.

Funny read....this thread.

Bottom line is..regardless of who what or where you are. This is Spanish Culture and you have too respect this. The Bullfight is for you or its not...If you dont like it dont watch it.

I certainly don't watch the bullfights... and I in no way have to respect anyone's "tradition" if I think they are hurting some innocent creature (I'll bet the bulls don't care anything about Spanish Culture)... Slavery could be considered an American tradition - does that make it ok? Sometimes traditions need to evolve along with human intelligence...

Of course, I'm making no claims to being perfect myself... just thought it was an interesting topic to bring up. ;)

Yes, I stated that to show that I am being a hypocrite... ;) I would prefer to think that the animals I do eat are treated well and killed quickly, but realistically that may not be the case sometimes. This is an interesting topic on it's own... Is it right for us to eat meat? Do our bodies require meat? (I seem to know a lot of vegetarians who seem malnourished.) If we do require meat, is there some way the animals could be treated better? Something I think about a lot - but of course thinking is not really doing anything... so yeah, I'm a damn hypocrite. ;)

Yes I mentioned that before too... the only difference is that in bullfighting you are harming another innocent creature, but in skydiving you're only risking your own life (well, except for the few skydivers who have no regard for others' safety ;-) But I really wouldn't expect any whuffos to have sympathy for us when we get hurt either - after all, we are choosing to partake in a risky (and to them, senseless) activity...

Humans are CARNIVORES, look at your teeth, they are made to TEAR and chew, if humans were meant to be vegetarians our complexion would be different.

How do you like your burger?...want fries with that?

I hope that you will never hit a poor animal while you are driving.......

I hope I won't either, but if I do it will be an accident. Doping up bulls, smearing vaseline in their eyes to blur their vision, and stabbing them reapeatedly until they die a slow death for the spectators' amusement is not an accident ;)

Apparently you know nothing about bullfighting, nothing wrong with that anyway.

My understanding is that that's what they do for the "run of the bulls", but I don't know about traditional bullfights... Now since I haven't physically been there and watched them do this, I could certainly be wrong... (the media wouldn't lie to me, would they??? ;))

Have you actually been to the "run of the bulls" or a traditional bullfight? I would definitely be interested in hearing the perspective of someone who has been there... Or if you have a different perspective of what goes on anyway I'd like to hear it...

I'm obviously no expert on this topic, but I thought it would make an interesting discussion. ;)

I haven't ran with the bulls but I've been to traditional bullfights, and if your concern about the 'cruelty' is what's bothering you, let me tell you, the bull suffers a quick dead (the better the Torero is, the quicker) just like being in a slaughter house.

We all eat fish, meat, chicken, etc, but we rarely 'see' how they are captured and killed, it might be shocking for some people, but, that's how nature is.

Ya know, I always thought it wouldn't be a big deal keeping ahead of these things, but one of them was a marathon runner. Hmm...

I'm pretty sure they don't run the bulls that will be fought. I saw something on it and they said they quit doing that and now they run the sub par bulls, still the same fate.

I don't know how the rodeo animals are treated, but I'm pretty sure they're not tortured and killed at the end of the event for the spectators' entertainment

But torturing and killing lesser animals for entertainment is a NATURAL thing.

Monkeys do it. Dogs do it, in fact, many predators do. Heck even fuzzy cute little kittycats do it... Never seen a cat just play with a mouse or bird for hours, then kill it and leave it lay?

At least the bull fighters eat the bulls when they are done.

Not to mention the tennis matches in patagonia where the orcas play with the seals bangin' them around...interesting matches. SOme times they seem to be needing a rig!

I'm a vegan but I'll try to keep that outta this:

Keely, if you feel so damn bad for the animal, feel bad for all the animals. Don't be selective. If I ever went back to eating meat, I'd eat cats, deer, veal, ferrets, parrots, chicken, hamsters, beef, elephant, giraffe, and dodo if I could get my hands on it. Either you grant them all pardons, or you don't. Basing selective pardons on animals based on how bad you feel for them is weak.

Seeing how people (who somehow think a kittens/puppy/bull's life is worth more than fish's, turkey's, or cow's) fawn over their kittens, before sittings down to a turkey dinner is one of the most annoying things ever.

The people who don't care one way or another, but just like thier kitten or dog more and are aware that their distinctions are arbitrary, I respect much more (in this regard) because of a persistance of rational.

Bull fighting is a tradition but so was putting humans in arenas with lions in Rome. Other animals torture animals (i.e. Orcas and seals; cats and mice) but they are also not thinking and reasoning animals like we are. Some activities at rodeos are cruel; not all. I know that the activities in rodeos are based on ranching necessity, but raking a cattle prod over an animal's back to make it buck more violently is not part of that ranching necessity.

I'm not a tree-hugging hippie - I eat meat and have no problem with hunting, but I don't want anything to suffer unneccesarily.

I respect your logic very much. If you ever cook one up, I'll share a cat with ya. I actually think we should eat horses. They have a large muscle mass and are very lean. Europeans eat them. I want horse burger!

Dude, europeans eat ROOSTERS instead of turkeys for Xmas, yum...a rooster sandwich and a horse burger, and to wash it down a cool beer.

Since we are on the topic of seasonal foods, I will add that I like rabbit in wine sauce for easter dinner...to keep up with the day!

If you read all my posts from this thread, you will see that I am not being selective... I have already stated that I am being a hypocrite because I am a meat-eater (and worse than that, I'm letting someone else kill the animals for me). I never stated that a bull's life was worth more than a fish's life - they are equal to me.

However, killing animals for food, whether it is right or wrong, is still different than torturing them - be it a bull or a fish - for entertainment.

I do respect you for being a vegan. I have tried being a vegetarian in the past and it made me feel very unhealthy - this is most likely because I didn't have the proper nutritional education that one needs if they choose such a diet. If I decide to try it again, perhaps I should go visit a slaughterhouse for inspiration... It's definitely a tough question in my mind... Thanks for your input...
