paul.Mcallister 0 #1 December 28, 2011 Hi All, Could someone explain the difference between these riser types and the advantages / disadvantages of one type over the other ? Thanks in advance, Paul
riggerrob 643 #2 December 28, 2011 (One inch wide) Type 17 risers make your ass look fast.
riggerrob 643 #3 December 28, 2011 (1 and 23/32 inch wide) Type 8 risers are more durable, because it takes longer (more jumps) for the webbing to tear away from the top of the grommet hole. Smart manufacturers sew a bar-tack across the top of the grommet hole to further slow tearing.
theplummeter 15 #4 December 29, 2011 Most slider grommets will slide down over type 17 risers allowing you to stow your slider behind your head and loosen your chest strap. Type 17 risers are smaller and easier to tuck in many containers. Type 8 risers last longer and can house larger toggles.
BIGUN 1,419 #5 December 29, 2011 Rob, Is there still a recommended weight for the Type 8 riser I _think_ it used to be 220#Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
popsjumper 2 #6 December 30, 2011 Google is your friend: From Mirage Systems: "Do I need regular three rings, or can I get the mini-rings? Both work fine under normal circumstances. The tolerances are tighter with mini-rings, however, and if you use mini-risers too, we recommend changing them often. The most efficient set-up is the large (aka standard) ring on Type 8 (large) risers. Second most efficient set-up is a mini ring on Type 17 (mini) risers. The least efficient is the mini rings on large Type 8 risers. You can't get big rings on mini-risers. See the Owner's Manual for more info on this subject."My reality and yours are quite different. I think we're all Bozos on this bus. Falcon5232, SCS8170, SCSA353, POPS9398, DS239
