I have a tatoo of my ass on my ass.

Does it look anything like this? :D
So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright
'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life
Make light!

very cool. B|

mine are three japanese symbols. the middle one - above my belly button is for "balance". the one to the left of my belly button is "hate" and the one to the right is "love". trying to find the balance of love and hate in life. i think it's a struggle many people have. :P

i think pictures are required :)

actually i'm interested in which kanji you used for 'balance' i can think of several that are apropriate depending on the particular meaning your after...

for anyone that ever wonders (and has seen it to wonder) the kanji on the side of my helmet means both Wind and Style (or School depending on the context)

Something else to consider--where you put a tattoo. This should be a serious matter, just because, first of all, you never know when you'll want to be able to hide it (some places of employment frown on visible body art, and they suck but what can you do?), and second, because some places are just too damn painful to want to apply that sort of torture for any amount of time.
I have one just below the waistline right on the tip of my spine, and that actually didn't hurt at all. I have another on my lower right stomach, sort of below the hipline, and that hurt like HELL!
So, pick it carefully before you stick it!

Don't pick a spot based on pain. If pain is an issue, you probably shouldn't be gettin tats. By the way, on the shin has to be one of the best spots for pain!
I have a bunch of tattoos, they have some significance for the time period in which I had them done, but they are all for looks, no real meaning behind any of them. Besides, nobody knows what they mean when they look at em', and after time, I kinda forget too, but they will always look good.
...FUN FOR ALL!

On my first tattoo (kanji "Long Life"), I was very cautious, and checked with three friends (Japanese, Chinese, and Korean) to make sure I wasn't saying Yo Mama if I ever went to Japan...
On a later tattoo (Celtic knotwork band on right arm), I made the mistake of working with a tattooist I didn't know well, and ended up pretty disappointed (kinda sucks looking at the guy's book and being totally impressed, watching him do a beautiful job on my wife's tattoo, and then having him get halfway around my arm before admitting he'd never done a band before...>:()
The drawing/temp idea is a pretty good one, think I'll try that for the next one

Nope.......she is the one that introduced me to all this Pagan/Galic symbols. She has a Pagan "Goddess" tattoo. Pretty damn cool!

I have a dragon and Yin/Yang on my left arm, an Ankh and a Pegasus on my right. Both look cool.

I have a large colorful phoenix on my right chest and I liked it right up till someone told me one day that it looked like a Parrot. Now all I see is a parrot when I look at it.

Gah!

I don't know how a phoenix could possibly look like a parrot...I bet it looks pretty cool!
