that being said, No, hell NO! Girlfreinds or SO's (female only) of skydivers who have the patience to hang around the dropzone for hours have a special place in the community. But beyond that if you can't jump by yourself and don't intend to ever then you are not really a skydiver. You may be a great person who is a barrel of laughs and extremely pleasant to be around. But you're still a whuffo or you would understand why skydivers do everything they possibly can to keep skydiving. How can you possibly understand that and at the same time say you choose not to?
If I could make a wish, I think I'd pass.

There are of course, "poseurs" who after having made a single tandem, strut around with "boy do I love me" puffery, claiming to be a "skydiver", which is technically true, yet not true in the sense of a licensed, seasoned jumper.
I think we skydivers need another term for those who've made a jump, but aren't licensed. "Student" doesn't cut it, because many people make just one jump and that's it; yet there needs to be, IMHO, a means of clarification.
I propose the term "Nugget". Granted, it's somewhat derisive, but it kind of fits.

Good thinking; yet I think that sounds too much like the marks that shoes make in those floor-wax commercials...
"The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat."
Its the marks they leave on the rigs and jumpsuits....

I don't really care if someone calls themself a skydiver after 1 tandem, much like I don't care if someone calls themself a rock star after playing at someone's birthday party in their backyard. As long as their not trying to be an "expert" go ahead and call yourself whatever you want (except for a cop, because that's illegal )
I don't really have a definition of a "skydiver." I didn't feel like one 'til after Quincy. I don't feel like much of one now, since I discovered that there are other things to do on nice weekends. But, others should feel free to label themselves however they want to. It doesn't really affect me.

There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning

This morning when I stopped at the gas station, this young kid noticed my bumper sticker for Jumptown. He asked me if I was a skydiver. My answer was, "Actually I'm still a student right now."

She is a skydiver because she voluntarily jumped out of a plane and "dove" through the sky! It doesn't matter if you have 1 or 1000 jumps. It was done!

my 02.
until you have made a freefall jump where you are the sole person responsible for your survival, your still cargo "just along for the ride"
after all does riding in a plane make you a pilot??

That's a scary thought. Linda....a skydiver.

I belive that you can be called a skydiver if
a. you have jumped out of a plane at altitude
b. you have a desire to do it again and again
If you have jumped (regardless of how many times) but dont desire to do it again then you have skydived but are not a skydiver.
Don´t belive the hype

I like your attitude about this, Vallerina. Arguing over whether someone else is a skydiver seems like a waste of time. It reminds me of the days when I would naively get involved in religious debates. I shit you not more than one person has told me, "If you're Catholic, you're not Christian." WTF?

Danny, you really believe that crap?
Linda made a few tandems over the years and I don't think she is a 'skydiver'...and neither does she. She is just someone who made a few skydives. She never EFS'd. And she never planned on doing it by herself.
I'm really curious why you would consider her a 'skydiver'?
