Desperate skydiver in need...

Recommended Posts

First of all anyone and everyone, I don't do this that often but I'm in a bind. I was suposed to have a roommate move in with me but that fell thru. Work has cut my hours again. I'm probably going to use August's rent check to pay for July's rent. Just all kinds of crap... Does anyone have any ideas of how to come up with some cash fast? Anyone in a position to donate to a poor college kid who just got screwed out of a roommate, i.e. have rent and bills?

It's just been a bad week all together. I just deposited 100 into my bank and i only have 9 left...

Any advice or help, please let me know :(

Well, I heard that certain places that take male donations!!;)

Seriously though, I'm sorry about your plight. Can you get a part-time job that corresponds with your work hours? Do you pack and maybe can do some packing at the local DZ? Would you be interested in a newspaper route (do they do that anymore)?

Some of my female friends have cleaned houses or baby sat while they needed an income, but I'm not sure if you'd be into that.

Do you have any buddies in the landscaping business who you can do some odd jobs for? I used to wait tables during college. The tips were great. Maybe there are some local catoring places that need some early morning help for business breakfasts.

Does your college offer any part-time work? I did that during school as well. I know it's summer and all though.

Best of luck to you!

Oh, one other suggestion. If you don't think you're going to be able to pay your bills on time, you might want to think about talking to your landlord and creditors about your situation. Most are willing to work with you if you're upfront.

Also, this might sound dumb, but I know nothing about unemployment laws anywhere, let alone Kansas. Is unemployment available for those who's hours are involuntarily reduced? Or is it just if you are laid up, I mean off?

If I am reading this correctly, then you are atleast ahead in the rent...right? Gives you July to work odd jobs, whatever to come up with August's rent. What about your parents? Are they in a position to help you out? Perhaps you can do some things around their house that they need done. Also, in the meantime, you have July to find a new roommate.

Good luck.

Chris

Don't you mean "its a great way to make your hands bleed, your knees hurt, your hands hurt, your back hurt and loose 15lbs of sweat while making some money"?

Was that iin regard to: Spanking the  or Packing?:)

no i'm not really ahead, the accountant is just sending me checks for the next month at the end of the other month... if that makes any sense? so in the end i'm still going to owe the 530 to get back to normal with everything.

and i can't contribute around the house, they live in brasil and i'm in kansas... my parents are in a position to help, but i can't ask. it's weird like that, as he puts it, "it's part of growing up, you've gotta learn"

so i'm still screwed. nolan ryan is the option i've come up with. anyone wanna buy a couple hundred of his cards?

i don't have an accountant. my parents live in the brasil so we have to have someone in the usa to keep the books

Huh? Now I'm confused. I thought you said that you caouldn't ask them for help cause of some growing up thing...so why would your money be mixed in with theirs??? What, do you send your income to their accountant?? I don't get it and I don't think...nevermind.

I had this pizza job, until I found something better , then I kept the pizza job at night (parttime) but over a week till that paycheck.
Anyways, my 2nd day here I shoveled horse shit for $50 !

Hate to say it, but until you have a roomie, skydiving should probably be whatever you can pack for, and that's it. A roomate is your top priority right now. If you have any other periodic bills (e.g. car note), see what you can do about them.

If there is a medical center in your town, or even a medical school, you might be able to sign up to do medical and drug tests, too.

There's signing up with a temporary agency, there's trying your hand at translations (although the market for Portuguese to English is pretty sparse), there's signing up to tutor folks.

It's not that hard to learn to live on very little income if you know how to cook. I put myself through private college, so I have some modicum of understanding of living really realy cheap.

There are no guarantees. And the world won't cave in if you lose your apartment, it just means you have to find someone to be a roommate to. Really.

And folks, what he said about having someone in the USA to keep the books is exactly how it works. Means nothing about the relative amount of money in the family. And, speaking as a parent here, sometimes they do get hissy, don't they :P.

Good luck -- it sucks to know that you aren't sure where the next rent is coming from. PM if you want to bounce ideas off -- I used to be really good at the scraping by thing.

hmmm your the president of our club and you don't have enough money... do the enron thing :ph34r:

no no, don't do that. we need that money for a casa at ksupc. ;)
you can try to do what I'm doing... if your work is cutting hours, call in every day and check to see if anyone called in sick. Or, ask your fellow employees if you can work any of their scheduled hours that they can't or don't want to work.
