skymut 0 #102 June 20, 2003 Jeepers, you ought to try managing IT for a public school in texas. A total of 3 staff memeber, yes that's 3 in the department for a 4A school distrcit (total STUDENT enrollment of around 3500). We manage, 20 servers, 600 PC's, 400 Mac's, and probably 25 to 35 network printers on 2 domains. We have about 400 'full-time' users, and we also maintain user accounts for our students from grades 5 to 12 (approx 2000). We have a multimode fiber backbone with around 50 to 60 switches and a t1 connecting one remote site and a t1 (about to add a second t1 for load balancing) to the internet. We have to maintain the the network infrastructure AND provide the end user/help desk support, with 3 people. We are GOOD at everything, but GREAT at nothing...sort of the jack of all trades in IT. Oh yea, the pay sucks too. Ahh, I love my job (actually, I really do). Matt A well-informed person is somebody who has the same views and opinions as yours. I'm pretty sure it's a fast food item or it can be a reference to an obscure, early computer type device that has a semi cult following of web fingered, bubble eyed group of people who refuse to admit the world is round and that the PC is the standard. ChasingBlueSky 0 #104 June 21, 2003 QuoteQuoteQuote There are distros of Linux that run on Solaris systems, and I'm confident that the Folding Initiative has been ported to Linux, because SETI@home was. Yes but it doesn't look like the source is available. So it will only run on i86 linux not sparc. Source not available?! Zounds! Blah - get a real version of System V - AIX!!! Now that is a grea Unix OS BTW - I have at least that many systems in my home office here at home._________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me....
