Completed AFF Categories A and B today!!!

Finally, the sun has smiled on New England. Got to Jumptown around noon. Due to the dz being very busy and quite a few students, it took about 8 hours to complete both levels. I met Joe Deal...aka...JDBoston. Very cool guy. He was jumping his ass off all day.

My first level went really well, however, my radio malfunctioned which meant I had to fly the canopy on my own for the first time in my life. Well, I did it, and did it quite well. Landed in the student area and did an impressive PLF. My instructors were very pleased that I remembered what I was taught and able to control the canopy, use the wind to kill some altitude and land in the safe area. I did have video done for this jump and it is quite entertaining.

2nd level the TLO's added were 90 degree turns and tracking forward. On departure from the plane, my primary broke away, so I only had my secondary for a few moments. Got my bearings, had a great arch, and did my circle of awareness as if my primary was there. She then docked with us. Did a really good left turn, but a sucky right turn. Also forward tracking went really well. Under canopy, I did have radio this time, but we were dealing with some tricky winds. Anyway had a pretty decent landing in a sand pit right next to the student landing area, and fell on my ass.

All in all, everything went really well and I am cleared for C-1, which hopefully will be this weekend. I think I was most proud of the way I handled my canopy flight when faced with the radio malfunction.

You people never told me it would be this much fun. You really should be a little more expressive on these forums.;);)

BTW, when the hell do the ears clear?:P

Kick ass!

Dude, I'm so excited for you. Its also very cool to hear some good news today.

As for the ears, press your nostrals together and blow gently through your nose. You'll feel the ears equalize. If you have a little sinus congestion, it may take a little longer for them to equalize (as mine are right now...huh? what?)

Hey that radio thing happened to me, except it was just they forgot to ask the order in which the two students we had would be getting out. They gave HIM radio all the way down when he was supposed to be on just radio standby. I got the radio standby on my second jump. I flared a bit early, but it was ok. Congrats on your jumps.

Chris that is awesome. WOOHOO!!!! I wish I had been there to see it all happen - but family commitments kept me home today. WOW - I can't believe the radio failed you on your first jump. That's crazy. Awesome that you were calm enough to land the canopy in your own. That is simply fantastic!!! Major congrats going out to you right now. Damn - I so wish I was there. Sounds like you had a great time-I'm so happy for you right now. When I did my first levels for AFF I was on such a high for weeks - too bad I have not jumped since then. But soon enough I will - you'll have to give me some pointers - sounds like you kicked some serious ass!

Finally!

Congrats, Chris. Good on you for landing without the radio. You don't need no stinkin' radio. ;)

Ow, Ow, Ow.....but a great Ow!B|

Morning after.[:/] I didn't know some of these muscles existed, but ow. Also, there certainly are some questionable bruises that could only be caused by skydiving harnesses or some kinky sexual harness.:$

And, the ears are still plugged, but I think it's what Dave said, some sinus thingy. Allergies have been nasty this spring. Does anyone know if sudafed helps?

Now, how many more days till Saturday? Aaah shit...I have to work all week.:( How do you do that?

Chris

Must be a yank thing. Over here the radios never work. Only thing I've ever heard was "well done, number 1" after my first exit, then I've been on my own ever since. It's great when you actually go up without radio for the first time (nearly landed on factory roof).

Congrats!

Congrats Chris! It was good to meet you. Just keep banging out those student jumps and try not to take any more days than you need to between them. You'll stay fresher that way, and it will be easier to progress... anyway, great job.

If the weather looks marginal, make sure you call the DZ or even stop by. We've had a couple of odd New England days where the forecast really sucked, but we managed to send 7-8 Otter loads up anyway with the people who were there taking the chance. Makes you wonder whether they just hire people off the street to be weathermen. See you next time.

Joe
