Guest #27 June 12, 2003 QuoteThe only effective method of long-term weight control I have found successful is discipline, diet, sweat, suffer, and SUCK IT UP. You need to make it a part of your daily life for the long term. A good mix of aerobic exercise and weight training is essential. Did everyone catch that? Just in case you missed it the last three or four times, discipline. You can eventually become habituated to it if you persist. Discipline will get you there. It's a mental challenge to get off the couch and put the beer down, but I did it when I was preparing for my recent California trip. I've lost some weight, but I know I'd lose more if I was consistent and did some strength training in addition to the aerobics (1/2 hr power walk during lunch, 1/2 hr. on Nordic Trak after work, followed by a trip to the Spa/Sauna at the local Rec Center [$2.50 / day for unlimited use of pool, spa, sauna, weight room, etc. and pay as you go; no monthly fees - what a steal!]). Keeping a logbook of what you consume and how much exercise you do is also helpful. For aerobics, learn your target heart rate and use a pulse meter to measure it (look for them on sale at sporting goods stores), or take your pulse for ten seconds and multiply by six. GARYC24 3 #28 June 12, 2003 I got this BFL Challenge in the mail yesterday.. I got a plan!.. I have to do the sets and also give the body a rest. I figure I'd swim in the pool at 24hr fitness on the days I'm not lifting. I'm also gonna make a journal. I would post a picture of me..but I don't want it to get in the wrong hands with skydivers using photo shop! hahahaah I will have a pic of me holding this months Parachutist. More later, Gary Calhoun
