cobalt main

Recommended Posts

I have one, it is a good canopy. it is a lot faster than the Sabre/Safires.
while it can be "docile", you can get yourself into trouble very quick.

that said, I concur with the previous post. not for beginners.

No. A cobalt is an appropriate canopy when you have 400ish jumps.

For a 20 jump person, canopies you can consider include spectre, sabre 1, maybe a sabre 2 (is more agressive), safire 1/2, silhouette, pilot, fusion (see sabre 2), triathlon, omega, pulse, electra, super7, dragon.

I wouldn’t jump it if I were you. I’ve had 3 Cobalts and I love them. At low, medium, and high wing loadings, they are responsive and can be aggressive. With 20 jumps, I would think that a Cobalt could easily get ahead of you. At high wing loadings, they can also spin fast with line twists. My Cobalts have also had fairly slow opening characteristics, which could become a problem if you accidentally open low. Also, my Cobalts definitely opened better with specific packing procedures, which at 20 jumps, you may not be fluent with.

Remember that Cobalts have not been made for years, so if you found a Cobalt with a good number of jumps (at 300-600 jumps, expect to change the line set), at a good price, you may want to purchase it and put it in storage until you have more experience and your dropzone personnel feel that you may be ready for it.

All in all, if I had jumped any of my Cobalts when I had fewer than 300-400 jumps, there’s a good chance that I might have been injured.

I got mine at around 250 jumps, loading at 1.3 and I would not have wanted to be under it any sooner or I would have likely injured myself. Your results may vary;). If you do it, get video of your landings.

But other than that, I've owned 4 cobalts in everything from a 170 to a 135 and I like them a lot. Openings were soft but not long and the recovery arc is the perfect length for my taste. Flares nice too. Really wish my 135 hadn't found a watery grave at the bottom of the ocean:(

When I started jumping I had to jump rounds cause a square was too hot! A Sabre was in the realms of fantasy B|
2 wrongs don't make a right - but 3 lefts do.

cobolt main for someone that has 20 jumps... could this be good main

I got a cobalt for my first main before I really knew much about canopies and it was a pretty bad decision. I put less than 20 jumps on it before I got rid of it and got a Sabre 2. get something else until you have many more jumps and are better prepared to decide if a cobalt is for you.

Can the mods change the title to "Cobalt"?
"colbolt" wont work in the search properly.

In terms to the canopy choice at your level, everything was said before.

I have had jumped three cobalts in different sizes/WL/jump no. and I loved the canopies. Wait for it till you have more jumps and are ready.
