Temp Jobs Suck

Recommended Posts

So it's like this: I'm working a temp job for a couple of months for an insurance company processing negative biller reconcilations

The computer that they gave me when I showed up is an old piece of shit Compaq which keeps crashing. I have called the computer desk probably ten times over the past few days and everything they do does not help...it keeps crashing. I asked my supervisor if I could have a new computer, and she put in a request to the same *&^% computer people which was denied, because I'm a temp.

The problem is, it usually crashes when I am surfing dz.com, so I have to be pretty clandestine about reporting the crash...it wouldn't help my case any to have them show up while I'm PWing...

Grrrr... I'm about ready to go bug one of the VPs to see if he can pull a string for me.

I understand dude, and that's fucked up, in my EX job, these fuckers always give the temps and consultants shitty machines, but expect MIRACLE results...same thing everywhere bro.

Pour some coke down the back of the machine and then go take a break. If the machine isn't working they've got to get you another one;):D

You know, I used to hate temp jobs, but now that I've been in a permanent location for over 3 years, I kind of miss the freedom of being a temp. Sure, you get treated a lot less like part of the company "family", but you are also more likely to get away with mistakes or lower levels of productivity. And hey, you can always blame it on "Well, no one ever told me about that!";)

As a temp, you can also find other work really fast, so it is easy to just say, "Seeya!"

When I worked as a temp, I registered with like 6 different agencies, and I was busy turning away overflow work until found my permanent job and told them all I was done.

That reminds what happened once, TRUE STORY:

This ADMIN was complaining that his local printer was too slow, so it called support, I sent one of the techs to investigate, nothing wrong with the equipment, it was an older printer and this moron was sending HUGE print jobs, so it takes a little while to spool, he didn't accept that answer and 'demanded' a new printer, unfortunately, the lease for that printer wasn't expiring until the end of this year, so, no dice, 2 days later, we received a call from the same idiot, saying his printer wasn't working at all, the tech brought the printer to the lab...in fact wasn't working, reason? the printer smelled like MOCHA-LATTE, yes, this fucker poured a cup of coffee in the printer, and said 'IT WAS AN ACCIDENT', so, I said 'Fuck him' we trashed the printer and called his manager, and since the company I used to work at are cheap bastards didn't buy a new printer, so I assigned this idiot to a network printer down the hall HAHAHAHAHA.

Sorry it was a long story, but it was funny.

I kind of know how you feel only with student laptops at the college. They won't fix those pieces of carp. At my new temp job, I get to work with power tools and hammers, if your computer is really bugging you, I can bring it in for a consultation ;)

Thanks for all your support. I know you all know what it's like when you can't PW up to quota.

I was actually thinking about doing something along the lines of LouDiamond's suggestion, but perhaps more subtle (don't want CrazyIvan's techs on my ass). Maybe I could futz with the registry?

No, I think the solution is this: I can't concentrate on work if I'm worried about the computer crashing. So if I'm not going to work anyway, I'll just spend more time here. If the company is going to be shitty about computer/temp regulations, then my efficiency will just have to suffer for it. I'm a hard worker and can get shit done faster and better than most of the permanent employees in my division (I worked here last summer too and did such a good job that my supervisor asked me to quit school and work for them...yeah right). If the company insists on gives me shit, they'll get it right back.

You are absolutely right, one little piece of advise if I may, I know is frustrating but you have to brand in your brain that you can be as efficient as the equipment you are given, so if you have a shitty equipment, your turnaround will be shitty, not because YOUR performance but THEIR lack of support, what I use to say is this: 'I do what I can with what I got', it works all the time. Good luck man.

not because YOUR performance but THEIR lack of support,

Well, I'd say it's a bit of both. My performance suffers drastically when I take massive dz.com breaks, and I won't make any excuses for them, regardless of the support I'm getting.

My decision to PW after all.
