hyper172 0 #1 February 23, 2012 I just recently (a couple months ago) heard about SD AZ's ban of argus aad's at their DZ. I am just wondering if there are other dropzones that have banned the argus. If there is already a thread on this I could not find it. I think it would be helpful as I found out about the SDAZ ban second-hand from a group of young out of town jumpers that traveled to Eloy for the holiday boogie, all had argus aad's, and all were supposedly turned away. Also, I just checked SDAZ's website and I didn't see any reference to this ban, so if I have been misinformed I retract all of the above statement. If this dz specific ban is true, are there other dz's that have banned the argus?

DiverMike 5 #3 February 23, 2012 QuoteAlso, I just checked SDAZ's website and I didn't see any reference to this ban In our litigious society, I'm not surprised the banning of Argus is not an official written policy. I don't think my estate should sue somebody if I bounce unless there is gross negligence. If I went to SDAZ and they made me take out my AAD, and I bounced, I would definitely consider them to be contributory to my death. I know there are a lot of "if's" in that statement, and nobody is making me jump at SDAZ, but if I planned a vacation there and wasn't told I could not jump my AAD until I got there, I would be under pressure to take it out. So is there an official written policy? For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
diablopilot 2 #4 February 23, 2012 A DZ telling you you can't jump an Argus is NOT the same as them "making you take it out of your rig." That's a personal choice.---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
Unstable 9 #5 February 23, 2012 Quote So is there an official written policy? I think it's funny how Argus is banned at SDAZ because of the 'risk' of a canopy around the tail due to a faulty cutter yet somehow I keep seeing old FXC's get on SDAZ planes. Hell, they go off randomly even when they're working correctly! OH SDAZ you crack me up...=========Shaun ==========

MRNUTS1960 0 #7 February 23, 2012 It is a written policy at least on their websight. I like most every skydiver in the world I guess was dreaming of planning some way to go there until I went on their sight. At the bottom of the home page is an argus symbol and when you hit it you get the written policy that the argus aad is banned from their aircraft. For aircraft safety I believe it said but I may be mistaken. But it is there. However that does not apply to their aircraft at other sights like the Dollar daze couch freaks. I wrote and ask and they assured me I was good to go on those aircraft there. I have not seen it anywhere else yet. If anyone has please post and save some of us a really bad expeiece. councilman24 37 #8 February 23, 2012 The really bad experience is having the Argus capture your reserve loop and either not release the reserve when you need it or cause your ripcord to not work.Better than nothing? In your case probably since your ripcord will still work. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
DiverMike 5 #9 February 23, 2012 QuoteIt is a written policy at least on their websightQuote Thanks for posting that. SDAZ has every right to not allow me to play with their toys for almost any reason. I won't plan a trip there until or unless I get a different AAD or there is a policy change. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
 Join the conversation You can post now and register later.
