SkydiveMonkey 0 #1 June 1, 2003 Already tried changing the fans indside with "quiet" (20 dB's) ones, but it's still too noisy for my liking. It's the only thing in my pc maknig a nise, and I can't afford to shell out for a new one. Any ideas how to dampen the noise?____________________ Say no to subliminal messages

beowulf 1 #3 June 1, 2003 buy a new one the trouble you would go through to make it quiet would not be worth it and probably would do much good.
Perky77 0 #4 June 1, 2003 put it in the other room and get really long cords to your keyboard and monitor. If you can't hear it, it isn't makin noise. "Sacrifice is a part of life. Jimbo 0 #5 June 1, 2003 Are you sure it's the power supply? Every time I've gone to quiet a noisy PC I've found that it's the CPU fan making all the noise. Find a way to slow that fan down (hint: think bigger, more efficient fan) and you'll be golden. - Jim"Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed. CrazyIvan 0 #6 June 1, 2003 Simple: BALL BEARINGS, those are the quietest fans, they are kind of expensive but if you want silence...pay the price. __________________________________________ Blue Skies and May the Force be with you.
jose 0 #7 June 1, 2003 A couple ideas here. Start with your case fans. I use the low Db ones too, but I have found that the Stealth ones are the best. They use ball bearings and are smooth as hell. Second, get a really nice CPU fan with a monster of a heat sink on it. I have the Volcano 9 on my AMD 2600. The great thing about the fan is that it only runs at the speed necessary to keep the CPU at rated temp. The harder you make the computer work, the faster it spins. So if you dont do any hardcore stuff, it will spin much slower than the one you have now, but when you are downloading and rendering all that porn, she will be hummin! quade 4 #9 June 1, 2003 Ideas are a dime a dozen. On the other hand, if you really wanna reduce the noise, I have a damn good solution, but it's gonna cost you. http://www.acoustilock.com/ http://www.norenproducts.com/quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
MagicLou 0 #10 June 1, 2003 Startech has a couple of "Silent" Power Supplies http://www.startech.com/ststore/itemdetail.cfm?ProductID=ATXPOW300SL&topbar=topbarp.htm The also have a line of "quiet" case fans and cpu coolers. I've tried their product before and it's pretty decent. I don't have any affiliation with them so this isn't an ad for them. Hope this helps.Lou ___________________________________ . . . now you see that evil will always triumph because good is dumb - Dark Helmet
Cajones 0 #11 June 1, 2003 There are power supplies that are fanless, also. For example. If you are interested in making your PC super quiet, there are [url"http://www.silentpcreview.com/"]websites[/url] devoted to making stealth PC's. Believe it, or not, PC noise is such an issue that at least one Scandinavian county has enacted laws to limit dB's in the workplace from them. - Cajones The laws of physics are strictly enforced. wmw999 2,452 #12 June 1, 2003 In my case it was the CPU fan. Cheap and easy, too -- my favorite kind of repair! SkydiveMonkey 0 #14 June 1, 2003 It's not the cpu fan (I got a zalman copper flower cooler), not the northbridge cos I got a passive heatsink on it, not the case fans cos I got em all turned off (alhough those are also rated at 20 dB's). EDIT: even my graphics has passive cooling____________________ Say no to subliminal messages
