or a Citroen 2CV,they are way fun to drive in.. he he

Actually they are fun to drive in. For those who don't know, 2 cv stands for deux chevaux, also known as 2 hp, yup a car with only 2 hp. The whole roof of the car was fabric that you could roll back. The suspension was so loose, you could almost get the car frame horizontal without any tires leaving the surface. Ohhh fond memories, well at least when the car started in the morning and we did not have to take public transportation.:(

Yah my ex girlfriend had one in college she loved it and bragged about how near impossible it was to flip over. I teased her that it doen't go fast enough to flip over. Glen

I live in Chicago. If I went off road and end up in jail.

I used to have a Jimmy, go off road, hunting, etc. In a few more years I'll be out of the city and able to do that again. For now I just want luxury and to sit up high.

I had an '02 Celica GT. Excellent little car to zoom around in. Never had ONE problem with it while I had it. (Now I'm driving a Porsche... it's a headache, but fun.)
The Subaru is a great handling car. Very durable.
Hyundai Tiburons are gorgeous, but infamous for electrical problems.
If you're going for a car that can take a beating, select the Subaru.

Oh, I would love to have a '60s vintage Porsche of some kind...I love working on flat-aircooled engines...

I miss my VW, I'm going to have to drive back to Sherman to spend some time with her...

Mustangs are worthless, unless you drop $$$ in them to get them to the power they should have...

Nustang seems to have finally lost the horsepower race to the Camero which Chev no longer makes (dumba$$es). Only reason I'm keeping mine is because the previous owner, my Dad, (can't believe he sold it to get a Miata) droped about $10,000 into performance mods.
Gotta go with the Impreza...been living in England too long not to love rally cars!

Do not weep for the Camaro, for it is not gone.

IMHO, the Camaro shall return within approximately 5 years with a new look - and a radically inflated price tag. (think Thunderbird, I predicted that one, too)

But I don't care, 'cause I'm a Pentastar fan.

The thunderchicken is already on it's way out the door. I heard it was yanked.

Now the return of the Goat. grrrrrrrrrrr. That, my friend is another story...

The WRX always gets great reviews, and if I could have afforded higher payments I would have gotten either the WRX or the Mazda6. The Neon SRT is getting some fantastic reviews as well - I have the 2003 SXT Neon with almost 10,000 miles on it (purchased it Jan 26th) and its a great little car and holds up well. No real complaints. The RSX seemed a little small inside for my taste, but its also a nice car.

My roommate has been looking at the Nissan Maxima (03 and the very expensive 04 model) and loves both versions. Also the VW Jetta and Passat are great cars as well.

I would think that a car with good mileage would be an issue for you out there on the west since gas is usually pretty expensive.

You've test driven the RX8?!!! :o What's it like? It won't be in my neck of the woods until August!

I've seen a half dozen RX8s on the street now. Are they in limited release? Occasionally I see cars with manufacturer plates that are magazine testers, but I noticed one had Cali plates and the others had dealer plates.

As an aside, I saw two heavily disguised 2005 Mustangs the other day.

That's okay. They built the last really worthy Camaro in 1969 anyway - it's all been downhill since then.

Although I do like the '93 and later (i.e. fourth generation) body style... especially the ragtop...

BOXSTER!

favaks

Ding...Ding...Ding...! Actually, this is my #1 pick! (if I could afford it). Great car! I had a friend with one (skydiver) and the wuffos who'd come to do a tandem would think that we made ALOT of money with that one sitting in front of the hanger.

Actually, the owner of the Boxster was this skydiver's father who lent him the car for the summer while he went on vacation. Palm Springs....oh what a fun DZ that was! :)

REALLY??!!! I was going to keep my '98 Mustang GT until the 2005 came out, then trade it in. Man, if they're roaming the streets now as Halloween drag I gotta get a first hand look at one of them.

Here's my list of suggestions in order of preference of what you have in your listed price range.

Mini Cooper S - fun in a sweet little package
Acura RSX Type S - fun, but a nice looking every day car
Subaru WRX - All wheel drive fun, but don't like all the lines. I think it looks good from the front, but I don't like the lines of the rear.

Anyway, you can't go wrong with either of these three. I haven't driven the WRX, but just looking at all the specs it looks like it would be a fun car but the quality of the other two rate them higher for me. Especially the mini...remember BMW bought Rover specifically for the Mini and MG marques and then sold off the rest. If that says anything about what went into the whole idea of the car for BMW.

I wonder what the voting would have been like if a different car had been first on the list. With a vote distribution like that you gotta wonder.

Anyway, I'd say that putting the Subaru first makes it clear where your heart lies -- along with the plurality of other people's. Go for it. If you just HAVE to be practical, get the hatchback/SW so you can put all your camera & skydiving gear in the back.
