Sebazz1 2 #1 May 21, 2003 I've decided not to post anything else on the matter regarding the incident. You guys do it on your own. Everybody thinks I pulled Vinnies (TheAnvil's) cutaway when the exit funneled on our second record attempt this weekend. Here is a pic attached that shows my hand on the pillow. Anyway after I noticed the cutaway handle fly by me and noticed it was TheAnvil's, I quickly grabbed him and waved everybody off. I made sure that the airspace above him and around him was clear and indicated to him that he would need to go straight to silver. He understood and everybody made it the ground safely... Regardless if I did it or not I offered to pay Vinnie for half the reserve repack and half the cost of his handle because of the grief I have received. And the grief poured on by some has been pretty overboard. To the point where I am questioning some of my friendships at the DZ. People can be such pricks sometimes. This was not an incident of poor judgement or carelessness. If you do something stupid because of ignorance or poor judgement then whatever, tease them, laugh at them, whatever floats your boat, teach em a lesson by making people feel bad I guess... But if you're not sure what happened, like something that happened Sunday where there was no carelessness or ignorance. Just an incident that nobody really knows what happened. The situation was dealt with properly. That should be that. I could mention quite a few stupid things that people have done in these forums. I don't. You see me riding anyone about how they can't exit a fuckin plane? So stfu... And what I did was not stupid. It was an accident I'm not really sure I am responsible for but I took responsibility anyway. Cause of some of you fuckers out there riding me so hard. So whatever... P.S. ~ I'm not really that mad... Just kind of annoyed.

jfields 0 #4 May 21, 2003 Sebazz, I don't personally know any of the participants, nor was I witness to the events (obviously). It sounds to me like you acted responsibly and helped the situation by letting everyone know what was going on. Regardless of whether you actually pulled it or not, your follow-up actions were in the best interest of everyone's safety. It sounds like you were on the ball. It is skydiving and shit happens. Nothing malicious, no injuries? Move on, people. It doesn't sound to me that you are the one with the problem. Don't let "them" get to you, whoever they are. Just my $.02. steve1 5 #5 May 21, 2003 Sounds to me like it wasn't your fault. Don't let anyone put a guilt trip on you. Some people thrive on that sort of thing. Sounds like you kept a cool head and did the right thing by notifying the others. A lot of folks wouldn't have been this aware. If someone doesn't understand this, they are the asshole, not you.......Steve1
crapflinger2000 1 #6 May 21, 2003 Yeah, but what what I want to know is why nobody is talking about the real story here... Seb repeatedly punched Anvil in the face just prior to climb out... like 3 hard ones to the nose... He yells, "CUT!" and then lays the dude out. wham wham wham! We were like, "Seb, what the hell?" He just looked at us and said, "You ain't seen shit yet!" and started the climb out... Clearly he is out of control... Didn't anyone else notice this? p.s. he also brandished a firearm on takeoff. __________________________________________________ What would Vic Mackey do? Push 0 #7 May 21, 2003 I don't know, joking about mistakes/accidents is one thing, bashing the person is another. People didn't bash me that hard even after I exited without looking and a cop drove me back to the DZ. If they're just making fun of you, I guess it could be ok, but if they're just bashing you tell em to f*ck off. -- Toggle Whippin' Yahoo Skydiving is easy. Michele 1 #8 May 21, 2003 Bazz, I actually want to thank you for being really aware and getting his attention and making sure he knew what was going on. Irrespective of why the problem happened (I wasn't there, I haven't a clue), when the problem was recognized, you handled it very well. I recall several recent jumps which we discussed freefall emergencies, such as the one you all experienced as well as others, and clarified (somewhat) for me what to do about it. Your post also teaches something, and for that, I again say thank you. If people are giving you grief for an accident, I am not sure that's warranted. Even I know that weird shit happens in a funnel, things get grabbed which aren't supposed to, people get conked, etc. If people are discussing how to prevent it, or what to do if it happens to them, then cool...if you had done it on purpose, then phooey on you...but if it's a matter of assigning guilt or blame, that is not how people learn best if there's something to be learned at all other than shit happens and exits can get wonky... So yes, Bazz, you suck, but only in the nicest possible way. And you'll be down on Saturday at Ptown, and if I can get out there, then let's suck together! We'll call it the "suck dive"....me learning my booties, and you, grinning and flying circles around me. Deal??? adamT 0 #11 May 21, 2003 Yep, he definitely handled everything like a pro. Took care of vinny real well. The video is pretty amusing with most of the other jumpers waiting in line just to fly up to the them, say hello, and be waved off. I was one of the people harassing you(i not sure there was anyone who wasn't, probably why it go so irritating) but i ment no offense. I think i stopped when i saw how much it was getting to you. I hope there is no hard feelings. See ya at the DZ. adam P.S. I wish i could of caught that sucker as it zipped passed me, would of liked to see the look on your faces when i showed it to ya in free fall.

jlmiracle 7 #17 May 21, 2003 Sorry to tell you this, but you are not the first to do this and you won't be the last. Shit happens. We learn for our mistakes and the mistakes of others. I guy at our DZ a few years ago got his cutaway handle pulled on exit. As he was diving down to the formation, he noticed his 3 rings flapping in the wind. He flew up to people looked at them and point to his 3-rings and mouthed "I'm fucked". They did the skydive he dumped his reserve and landed fine. The girl that pulled it was very sorry realized her mistake right when it happened and spent the skydive looking at him mouthing "I'm sorry" the whole skydive. We gave her one hell of a hard time about it, but jokingly, mostly because the guy it happened to is one of those guys things happen too. Try not to dwell on it because it will only fuck up your skydives. But if it makes you feel better, you are a dick , you suck, and OJ is guilty. crapflinger2000 1 #21 May 21, 2003 Once during 4 way team practice I was dumped out by another teammate. On the video it looks about as intentional as could be (but you can tell by everyone's reactions that it was not planned and was in fact an accident), her hand goes right to my BOC and oopsy. I laughed it off... On another dive more recently, one soccer bim named N.S. did the exact same thing, accidentally, to another part of our 3Way... Moral of the stories: Shit happens.... And incidentally, I think the "evidence" that Seb actually "did it" is pretty slight in any case... whatever... gonna go shoot me some makos __________________________________________________ What would Vic Mackey do? flymysky 0 #23 May 21, 2003 Seb, You are one of the most experienced, reliable, respected and loved skyjumpers at the dz. You are always willing to share information, ideas and jumps with others. Even on the dives where the poo flies freely you always have safety in mind. Every skydiver here knows that. Although, there is a certain fenceline that seems to have developed a nervous twitch and cowers when it sees a certain canopy setting up. The poo-flinging belongs in the sky and the ground is the domain of beer, boobies and the occaisonal bombing run. We love ya Seb, 'specially on Sunday mornings. Kath. p.s. I wasn't actually here for the jump in question (. But you are the "Fence Worrier"
pop 0 #24 May 21, 2003 Seb, don't even stress about it bro. I know a lot of people gave you a hard time, but I don't think it was because they were trying to be mean to you (including myself). Everyone was just joking around. I was very impressed with Vinny being so upbeat about it. He was laughing the whole time on the van. Seb, it was just an accident and everyone realizes that it was. It could have happened to anyone, including me. Now what I saw from my perspective. We exited the King Air, the foramtion started funneling and went to shit. We exited at 15,000. Not but a few seconds later I sar Vinny's cutaway hadle pulled out. I didn't see by who or by what. I watched the handle float away at which point I let go of the formation. I looked at my handle just to make sure that it wasn't mine. Seb stayed with Vinny and I could clearly see him trying to tell Vinny that his handle is gone. Seb did an awesome job being right there and telling other to get away while trying to communicate with Vinny. By 13,000 I decided that this skydive is over and tracked till 6,000. At which point I turned around and tried to look for others in freefall. I couldnt see anyone anywhere so i deployed immidiatly and was in the saddle by 4,500. I'm glad everyone was safe. And Seb - you are not a dick, you dont suck and you are not guilty.7 ounce wonders, music and dogs that are not into beer
Chivo 0 #25 May 21, 2003 If I was on a similar jump, I'm not sure if I would understand what's the problem while on freefall. How did you get rid of everybody else? What signal(s) did you use? How did you notify your friend that he had to go for silver? On a different note... shit happens. Your reaction to the problem was really good. Everybody on that dive made it safely to the ground. That's all that matters. ~Chivo
