sinker 0 #1 May 21, 2003 Hey y'all... did you know that if you put your phone number in Google, it will likely bring up your name, address and links to maps to your address. I found this a little disturbing. For some it may be neat, but not for me. There's a way to submit to have this service removed for your phone number. Mine was removed w/i 48 hours. When you put in your phone number, be sure to put in the dashes (xxx-xxx-xxxx). I'm told this doesn't work for cell phones yet... -the artist formerly known as sinker
Icarus021 0 #2 May 21, 2003 Isn't it just feeding of online phone books? I tried my number knowing it was not listed and it doesn't come up. 3-2-1-cya Don't take life too serious, you will never get out alive!

sinker 0 #6 May 21, 2003 well shit, y'all. I just tried my in-laws #, pulled them right up. And a friend of mine here in Nashville, worked for them too. Didn't work for my folks in Phx though. -the artist formerly known as sinker

jfields 0 #8 May 21, 2003 For many places, it is kind of moot. Verizon releases the same information as a reverse-lookup on the web. So opting out of Google doesn't really do much, as it is all public information anyway, thanks to the local phone company.

Guys, this information has always been made available, even before the internet. jfields 0 #10 May 21, 2003 Quote Guys, this information has always been made available, even before the internet. They were called: Phone Directories Yeah, but before computers and the Internet, stalkers didn't have the time to read the whole phone book looking for the name and address to match the phone number they found in the bathroom stall. Or did you?

sinker 0 #12 May 21, 2003 and another thing, it wasn't always so damn convenient to find people... so what, it was in the phone book. But there wasn't a frickin map telling you how to get to my place. it's just a little disturbing that you can do so much so quickly, right down to finding where someone lives, with "public" information. -the artist formerly known as sinker
jerm 0 #13 May 21, 2003 no need to read the whole book... reverse-lookup directories have been around for ages.... phone numbers listed in order with name and address after. was always public.. this is just more convenient Landing without injury is not necessarily evidence that you didn't fuck up... it just means you got away with it this time
2fat2fly 0 #14 May 21, 2003 I had my number unlisted about a year ago but it still comes up with my wife's maiden name (that the phone was originally in) and a map to my house. I dunnot like that at allI am not the man. But the man knows my name...and he's worried

bvsdjumper 0 #16 May 21, 2003 Just for shits and giggles I tried the number on google with my area code (814). It turned up what looks like at least two different places for the phone number, but check out what http://www.phonenumber.com/ returned: Jennifer Boylan --Art Sky-div'ing (ski'div'ing) n.
