Unstable 9 #1 May 14, 2003 Okay, Here is a scenerio that I am curious about. Lets say you fuck up. You're out skydiving, you do something retarded, and somehow, you walk away from it without anybody else noticing. Do you: A: Run back to the hangar, and tell all your buddies about how you just about killed yourself, and get a good laugh. B: Keep your mouth shut, Learn from your mistakes, and protect your reputation. Lets hear it folks! sds manhappening KS=========Shaun ==========

If the story gets out, no big deal...if I learned from it, there's the chance others can, too... I had a former instructor who did something like this. He always hammered into students, but other than that, he didn't make a big effort to let others know he did it. Edited to add (as a matter of fact, we just figured out that story he always told us was about him!) Kind of a Catch-22 thing going on here. sds=========Shaun ==========
ozthebum 0 #6 May 14, 2003 I voted for the "No shit there I was" cause everyone already knows I'm a dumbass....no hiding that fact. Then I'd do that mentor thing Michele was talking about.

Sebazz1 2 #8 May 14, 2003 I don't know what you're talking about man? I have never done anything stupid in my life or in skydiving... If it aint on video it never happened
ThighMan 5 #9 May 14, 2003 A lesson learned and not shared is still a lesson, But only one person learns when you don't share. Even if it is embarrassing. You are alive and hopefully someone will learn from it besides yourself. Push 0 #11 May 14, 2003 Tell my instructor and fellow newbies about it. -- Toggle Whippin' Yahoo Skydiving is easy. All you have to do is relax while plummetting at 120 mph from 10,000' with nothing but some nylon and webbing to save you.
kansasskydiver 0 #12 May 14, 2003 Well in this case if Shaun is talking about me... I have hammered into my students that you should not turn low, dont find yourself in a position that you have to turn into the wind and turn too low. It is always better to take it downwind or crosswind for that matter than risking a low turn. I found myself in a situation where I was low, front risered it, pulled myself out of the corner and walked away without noticing how low i was. It wasn't until i saw the video and a fellow jumper sent me an email reminding me to watch my alt. I sent an email out to all the jumpers whom saw me make that radical turn, including Shaun apoligizing and reenforming the fact that low turns hurt and they should not be done carelessly. So in my case, not only did I talk to others to realize what I did wrong, but I informed those whom may look up to me, not to do such a thing and that i had made a bad call and could have been in the hospital. I'm human and i make mistakes, but i am a bigger man because i admit to the mistakes and try to teach others from my mistakes while i can. mayday 0 #14 May 14, 2003 I would certainly tell others about it. No matter how stupid it was, you never know who might learn something from your mistake and it might just save one of your buddies' lives. peace out... May ;-) "saving the world before bedtime..." PhreeZone 20 #15 May 14, 2003 Word in the birdman world is some jumper forgot to put his legs through the leg straps then jumped. The suit held him... then he told people about it. He got so much grief that he changed his story and said it never happened.... I think its not that you have to tell eveyone... just tell the people that can learn the lesson from that event.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

Tonto 1 #17 May 15, 2003 Spread the news... I launched a tandem once, big dude pulled his legs up, had camera and was accelerating away dispite best arch I could manage, and threw the drouge unstable. (My bad) It entangled with us low down (didn't throw near necks...) and we started a Tandem side spin. I tried to clear it twice, felt myself redding out and fired the reserve. The whole thing is on video and lasts about 9 seconds. It's currently shown to all potential TM's by evaluators in our country. Couls have been very nasty. tIt's the year of the Pig.
