Stupid whuffo co-worker

Recommended Posts

I just had a co-worker come up to me and ask about skydiving. A lot of people have started to notice, after a year of my presence, packing at work, pictures etc that I'm a skydiver and have become interested, but this guy was just stupid.

He started asking questions about tandems and skydiving, where to skydive etc. I gave him our clubs business card and showed him our website. Explained to him that we jump every weekend and that I was the president. Educated him about the club and who we were etc. Then he starts going off about safety. I explained to him that the media and movies make it worse than anything else and he begins to threaten me saying if anything happens he's going to sue me and the club and hold me personally responsible. I replied back to him and said that's why we require a waiver.
"Oh that wouldn't matter, I'll still sue."

What the hell is up with whuffo's trying to show how big and bad their balls are by pointing fingers and saying their going to sue, instead of getting up in the air with us and prove something!!!

So do you think I should let him jump?

It's not safe. Remind him of that. It's not safe. You take your life in your hands. For some of us, it's part of the attraction.

Yes, the risk can be mitigated. But if he's looking for safe, there are many better choices. And if you see him at the DZ, I'd sidle up to the instructor or DZ owner and tell him about your conversation.

You should have explained it to him like this:

1) If you feel the risk is too big for you to handle, don't go.

2) If you go, and feel that you are going to sue.....please consider that we don't let accidents live to tell the tale, so it would be your surviving heirs that would have to sue, not you.

3) And now based upon the attitude that you have shown me, you can trust the fact that IF you grow balls enough to come out to my playground you can rest assured that we won't let you play. So you can sue us for being prejudice against assholes.

This guy obviously wants his comfortable little shrink-wrapped life, all well-regulated & guaranteed. He obviously lacks the courage to take responsibility for his own life & wants society or the drozone or the government etc. to do it for him.

This guy is not a skydiver. And I don't believe he has the balls to ever be one.

Absolutely not. He has indicated to you that he doesn't plan on honoring the waiver that he will sign. I think that qualifies as grounds for refusing to allow him to jump.

Hey Chris:

You are always going to have people like that. I have seen people try to sue. The waiver provided it was written by an attorney is definitely good enough.

On the other hand I would turn the business away because it is not worth the hassle. I have a Tandem rating and unfortunately had to take similiar people up who act like that. On our waiver we have a place for the person to buy their rights back at $300 a jump.

In my experience though more often than not it is the student who does not listen to their instructor who gets hurt. I have only sprained one persons ankle and that was because they did not listen to me. Of course when I went through the course I was taught that if it comes down to it and the student does not listen break them first. It is the livlihood of the instructor not the student.

Anyway, I would just say tell that guy that maybe skydiving is not for him. Of course you need to do it in good political fashion. If he continues his rants and finger pointing then break the appendage and shove it up his ASS!!!! Hope that helps.

True. Skydiving is NOT safe. You can die. Even tandems die. Tell him that he should not do it.

I mention skydiving, but I never try to talk anyone into it. Either they really, really want to or they really don't. Tell this guy that he should not.

Just hit him with an axe handle.

It won't solve your problem and it probably won't knock any sense into him, but by god, I promise you'll feel better about everything.>:(

Fuck yeah...let him jump. Just scare the everlasting shit out of him when you do I dont know take his ass head down in a tandem or something of the sort. Im sure I could come up with plenty of ways to scare him and then if he tries to sue then hey no biggie whats he gonna sue for? Something he A) Signed and agreed to do on his own free will B) sue because it scared him he cant do shit about it...I say take him scare his ass then send him on his way:D

Even if the lawsuit is unwinable, a lawsuit will drain money from you in legal fees, etc. He would have to counter-sue to get his money back, which means more money spent, and even if he wins, the person has laws protecting him (bankruptcy, etc) from having to pay.

Either way, its lose lose.
