Kris 0 #77 May 12, 2003 ~$6000:2:0 $6000 = The possible amount of damage to my precious red sports car.2 awesome jumps No beer owed. Okay, here's the skinny. Jess told me about this party they were going to have at Skydive San Marcos. It sounded like a fun time and I get the bonus of hanging with Jessica and Brains so I'm in. I left work in Oklahoma City on Friday and immediately started driving for Jess's place in San Antonio. Then the omens started. 11:30, I stop for gas...twice. The first place I stopped had bad pumps. at midnight, my precious Phoenix Gold amp that runs my mids & highs gave up the ghost for no apparent reason. The fuses are good and I'm showing voltage (doesn't everyone carry a multimeter in their car?) on both the remote & power leads. At 12:20, it happened, just inside Round Rock, TX about 15 mins from Austin. I saw a white & brown flash with two great big brown eyes. Next thing I know, my air-bags had deployed and I was trying my best not to flinch and lose control of my car. I hit the hazards and pulled over to the far left breakdown lane as there was traffic in the other lane and it was closest. Yup, I had killed Bambi. Bambi was a suicide deer with a note pinned to her neck that read, "Goodbye, cruel forest." The carnage to my car was incredible considering that it was a glancing blow off of the front passenger corner. The entire front faschia, gone. Front rt quarter panel, toast. Hood, toast. Windsheid, toast. Airbags, toast and they smelled like ass and burned the piss out of my hand. The evil damage I notice when I saw that my sunroof wouldn't close all the way. It looks like the unibody has been torqued a few degrees off from true. Now, here's where I have to give it up to TX hospitality. I called Jess who was still 100 miles away and she put down the beer she had just cracked open and got on the road to come get me. The Round Rock police blocked the highway and I was able to drive the car to the exit ramp and park it in a Denny's until roadside service could send a wrecker. The officer then dragged me into Denny's and bought me a beverage & late dinner. Go Texas! I finally ended up conking out on Jess's futon at 4am. The adjustor should be looking at it within the next couple of days. I'm just glad I have full coverages on my insurance and that it's probably not totalled. The party the next night at SSM was epic. I found out that Jess was still a maggot, having done her SCR dive and never having completed her ceremony. Her and several others were dragged out to the pea-gravel at the appropriate time and were given their speech and their trophies. I don't think she knew just how cold the ceremony got because she became righteously pissed. But, she was a sport and stuck through it. There were many drunk dials, there were some boobies, fireworks, free beer, and good vibes. Big props this weekend go out to the Round Rock police, SSM, and the DZO Phil for taking pity on my plight and kicking down a free jump from 13.5K yesterday once the weather cleared. At least one good thing happened with my car being stuck in TX, when I go to pick it up I can use it as an excuse to spend the weekend at SSM. I was just about to dock on a hybrid, decided to wait a second and watch and was rewarded with great visuals of the whole formation getting vertical ...oops! A beautiful sunset track saw us track so far we had to drop in on McNasty's field. R2Hubert you are one very fast bunny . 1 case of beer for my 700th. Even though it was incredibly awesome and images of sunset flocking dives with multiple chicken hawks streaking across the sky in their chicken hawk suits tickle the mind so pleasantly... Magistr8 0 #94 May 12, 2003 Heya Dave Thank You for the praise, The first pull was AWSOME. I had about 5 seconds of delay and when I looked up I saw Evan and Jay exit right above me which looked really cool. Unfortunatly I had to leave for work at 315 and didn't help out in the PIE fest but well drink to it this weekend.I hear what you are saying about the nasty cross winds on approach. One my first jump, I came in to flare only to be pulled back into a slide on my side for about 10 feet. My flare is really comming along even though my landing originally stuck.
