Lost my BEST friend today

Recommended Posts

Hi, my friend...

A big huge hug coming your way. I know what you're feeling...just three weeks ago I faced the same heartbreak with my BK...and still feel the loss as keenly as a knife. As I came in tonight, no-one was at the door to greet me...having her little face there at the door when I came in for the last 17 years makes the loss still echo through my home...and my heart.

What I can say, though, Skymonkey, is while it's the hardest decision to make, the most amazingly painful decision, it was the right one. And as hard as it is for you right now, it was the decision with the most respect and the most love you could show - to allow Brutus to move to the next thing, to ease his pain, to love him out, with you there, murmuring to him your thanks and your love...

And you will never be without him - look inside you; see the memories again, feel the love again; a part of him will be with you always...and you are a wonderful person today for loving him home. And so I thank you on his behalf.

If you need an ear, don't hesitate to reach out. I am still intensely grieving my girl; I understand.

hugs to you-
Michele

It was very special that you stayed with Brutus when he was put to sleep. I'm sure it took all fear away from him. Especially since he was not even in the scary vet office, but your van that he knew. You were a great friend to him all the way to the last. {{{{{{{loads of hugs}}}}}}}

When the Man waked up he said,
'What is Wild Dog doing here?'
And the Woman said,
'His name is not Wild Dog any more,
but the First Friend,
because he will be our friend
for always and always and always.' – Rudyard Kipling

I have so much sorrow for your loss. I have two "babies" of my own.

Do you have his ashes? Maybe you can do a memorial Brutus sunset skydive to say your own personal goodbye, or you can release his ashes on a hike or trail that he loved. Even if you don't have his ashes, you can jump with his dog tag or picture in your jumpsuit pocket. Say a special goodbye in the heavens to him. Cry in the beauty that is the sky.

I understand as my best, best friend (human) died unexpectedly about 5 years ago. It hurt my heart and soul unequivocally. Time will help to lessen your grief. The sadness will eventually peak, then you will find the strength to think of Brutus' death with a new understanding. Take care, Skymonkey.

Sorry for your loss. My black lab and pheasant dog is getting really old now. I've had him since a pup. I'm dreading the day that he goes. I counsel a lot of kids that lose relatives. This may not help much, but maybe another perspective that may help, is to think of those memories of your dog as a gift. Instead of dwelling of how awful it is to lose him, maybe try to think of all those happy times together as being a gift that you can fall back on. This may be something to work on later. Right now it's okay to feel the pain and loss of a good friend......Steve1

Steve, you give great advice. I think we all could use a little remembering. Skymonkey13, take it easy and it will be OK. Again, hugs. Yes, it touched my tear strings this morning when I read it.
