Extreme Sports Television

Recommended Posts

I really wish someone would start a TV station with nothing but extreme sports. By extreme, I mean anything you won't hear about on "Sports Watch" or some other lame sports coverage show. I absolutly despise football, baseball, soccer, hockey, basketball...basically any conventional sports. What I want to see is coverage on Skiing/snowboarding races/championships, coverage on all aspects of skydiving, BASE, basically anything "Out of the ordinary" for the average person. Any heartless media execs here on the forums? :D:S

Man would I love to see that!

I would even settle for just some decent coverage of the Olympics here in the US. Unless we will likely win or the event showcases young girls good luck finding it on TV here.

I spend the whole time trying to catch the fencing updates in french on SCOLA.

Well you would think with todays youth (...me included), it would pay to have a station featuring extreme sports. It could be like an extreme sports discovery channel. And it would make for EXCELLENT mainstream advertising so lack of funding support isn't an issue...and there are ways to integrate hotties into the programming, that is if the average person isn't excited by the sight of an obviously superior skychicks. In my opinion, any skychick is better than a whuffo. ok... a bit off topic there eh? Anyway...I think it's perfectly feasible to have a station like this...anyone want to help me start it? hehe

Yeah, its called "54321" and actually its pretty damned gay. "Extreme" sports is riding a piece of wood with wheels down the street now by their definition (although they do cover the Moto-X stuff, those fuckers are crazy). Stupid skateboarding, I bet they don't even break femurs when they mess up...

you ever see the videos of when they do mess up bad? they always play them on super slow mode on tv so you can see the bone bend then snap... ugh.[:/]

but I do agree with you... skateboarding and snowboarding aren't really "extreme sports" anymore. Maybe 10 years ago, but now its the BASE jumping, or skydiving, or the swimming with sharks (outside the cage).

man
usual skateboarding or snowboarding aren`t "extreme sports"
BUT when u ride a fucking mounting (freeride) with a lot of avalnche chances and big roks everywhere and when u make a gigant ollie - 13 stairs or so -(skateboarding) i think they become slowly "extreme sports"

and about the subject "extreme sports TV"
last year at Pepsi Sziget festival in budapest there was a tent where 24/24 7/7 was only extreme sports on tv
anyone know somthing about it?
they have a big banner with "extreme sports televsion" but they only put tapes

WE have one too although they only tease you with BASE jumping in the ads for the channel.http://www.canada.com/entertainment/tvchannels/xtremesports/ None of the shows actually seem to have it. Although I don't know for sure as I don't subscribe to Cable TV.

Most shows that I want to watch are Downloaded these days. Saves a whack of money and it used to save time. Now that I am unemployed all I have is time to waste.;)

I disagree. People regularly break legs, arms, faces, and god knows what else while skateboarding and snowboarding. Just because they aren't falling through the air at 120+ mph, doesn't mean that what they are doing isn't extreme.

I'm sure they say the same thing about us. How hard is it to fall out of a plane? Heck, those wimpy skydivers even have devices that open their chutes for them if they forget, so they don't have to pull their string! Since when is falling out and doing nothing an extreme sport?

if you mean you do extrem stuff you better back off..While you never should do anything you aint confortable whith, then its had to call it extrem in my world...
In my world extrem is personal.I dont think skydive is extrem, but you never gonna see me on a board,on the road, moutain or anyplase else...
Definition of extrem in my world:When people does stuff i cant or will try to do at that time(our limit moves all the time)...

Migth just me thats way out here, but that were my point..

By the channel i have heard about one on cabel but they never show anything were "falling" is a part of it..

"Extreme" is relative.
For your average North American couch potatoe, walking to the TV to change channels may be extreme.
Extreme for granny may be taking her walker to the corner store.
Personally, I would not call it an extreme sport unless you can hurt yourself.
For example, ocean kayaking may look tame, but I know if I roll over a long way from shore, the cold water will kill me long before I can swim ashore.
And you should have seen me after some of my "high speed dismounts" from bicycles!
The best part of the recent Vancouver Outdoor Adventure Show was a video played by a company that sold BMX armor. They had guys proudly displaying their "hamburger" knees, bleeding road rash and gleefully picking gravel out of their elbows. Now that is a sport!

And yes, I agree with the original poster that mainstream TV sports can get pretty boring pretty quick.

if i were to make a direct comparison between skydiving and skateboarding, in as far as "extreme" is concerned to the general masses, then i would compare a normal skydive where you "do nothing" and just fall until you pull to some kid skateboarding down the street. I have no actual facts for this, but i would guess that the average joe would consider this "basic" form of skydiving more extreme than the "basic" form of skateboarding. Now the vert ramps and stuff--i'd consider that extreme, and i'd equate that to playing with a skyball, skysurfing, doing big-ways, etc. On senseless acts of video one time they had tony hawk jump from one building to another.....in my opinion that is pretty freakin extreme!!
