Antithesis 0 #1 May 2, 2003 I'm just curious to see what skydivers think about this idea. I'm opposed to it personally But it's a free world right? How would you feel if there was a Christian ministry tent set up at your next boogie to offer you spiritual guidance? CanuckInUSA 0 #2 May 2, 2003 As long as they don't have someone standing outside their tent trying to get the people passing by to come on in, I wouldn't be totally against it. But as soon as they try and coerce me inside, I have a problem. Agnostic (mean I don't know if there is or isn't a God). Deuce 1 #5 May 2, 2003 Harsh. Funny, but harsh. I'm pretty deeply religious, but I'm pretty anti-evangelical too. The more time you gotta spend telling people something is really great, the less likely it's gonna be really great. I'd really like to see a Catholic recruitment tent at a boogie! Man! That'd be a hoot! How about a Mass? "You got any of these in nacho flavor?" "Oh, sorry, I thought it was a chug contest, where's the wine box, I'll get some more"
sarge 0 #6 May 2, 2003 Ya know, I'm all up for some Christian community, it's a great way to burn off a hang-over and I like having some chirstian-guided fellowship to remind me of how I could be more divine-like if only I'd quit smoking and drinking etc... Yeah,,,, I'm all for it, I think its important to stay in touch with my failings. Good thing they're around to point them out!!! Of course, I guess I could just get a wife to that too? but 10% tithings are cheaper than alimony?-- I'm done with the personally meaningful and philosophical sigs!! steve1 5 #8 May 3, 2003 Like was mentioned earlier, it all depends. I've got a fairly open mind, and the guy who's advocating doing this sounds all right in my book. But I'm also not a believer and I really hate it when somebody tries to give the impression they are hollier than thou just because they go to church. Not all religious folks are that way though, and I have some super friends who are really religious. I get along great with them because they don't push their religion off on me. What the heck, this guy is ex S.F., sounds like he was once a sinner like the rest of us, and he's a jumper. What would it hurt?.....Steve1
cuchulinn 0 #9 May 3, 2003 I woundn't mind it as long as their tent is a long way from the packing area!! To Many G__ Damn its" to go around over there! SMA#

jfields 0 #11 May 3, 2003 As long as they don't get offended by what I say and do, I won't get offended by what they say and do. Seems fair to me. If they get critical or start prostelytizing (sp), they'll wear out their welcome very fast. Other than that, it's all good.

JayhawkJumper 0 #14 May 3, 2003 I agree that if they just want to set up a tent and let people come talk to them, thats cool, but it wouldn't be good to have a guy with a sign handing out pamphlets. I doubt they would want to set up at a boogie anyway, there seem like better places to discuss Christianity.

That is only because they are wiser than you. They are here to offer guidance. If people reach the age of 18 and cannot distinguish between right and wrong, I hope they have the good sense not to vote. I'm in favor of the Salvation Army, they save young women from the clutches of sin. I'm hoping that they will save me one for Wednesday evening. ThighMan 5 #19 May 3, 2003 Got to love America. It is the only place where you can get religion and skydiving together. I for one don't mind a bit. Leave me alone and I'll leave you alone. TattooedMoFo 0 #20 May 3, 2003 I would mind, when I go skydiving that's all I want to see and do, not have any christian idiot trying sell me their story which I already get. This comes from what my team mates have nick named me "SATAN" it's also on my rig so I get regular comments because of it. If people want religion then stick to religion houses which are not found on a DZ.

snowboundlava 0 #22 May 3, 2003 I think it would be a really good thing. But...like many have already said....make sure there's not people running around passing out pamplets or begging for people to get involved, that usually only pushes people away. I think that there would be plenty of people that would come if they are interested, and they can pass the word along by WORD OF MOUTH.
