That said, you will not hurt yourself by being clean shaven. You probably won't with the beard, but there's always the possibility.

If you apply somewhere that you might have to wear a gas mask or something, you'll have to shave it anyway.

It's a nice-looking beard; I'd apply a couple times and see what happens, and keep the thought of trimming it in my mind. But do comb the hair!

The goatee looks well kept and of a reasonable length... I'd keep it, but that's just me. I say that, even though Ijust trimmed my goatee WAY down so I'd look "professional."

(It was about 4" long, now it's "normal" length).

I think you should have kept your goatee. It looks prett well maintained. Perhaps get something that can really trim it nice on the edges and then one of those shavers with adjustable lengths to make it all uniform. It looks lik the goatee really made you look older and more mature.

For an interview I would definitely shave it.

Hell I am in the guard and I have to shave mine once a month. Then again it grows back in 5-Days so it is no biggie.

Usually on an interview they are looking at professionalism. Most business types do not like a bunch of facial hair. That is from what I have experienced.

90% of the electronic/network/software engineers i work with (including me) have a goatee of some sort..its almost part of the 'uniform'

if you have to wear a gas mask you'll need to keep it clear under the jawline though..
