Guest #1 April 23, 2003 This Flash animation demonstrates a DARPA project with Anti-tank mines operating as a network that repairs itself. The mines communicate with each other and hop around..."The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat."

PhillyKev 0 #3 April 23, 2003 Yeah..I thought they were mines that could be disabled by remote control or something so that they don't kill people 40 years after they're intended use. But if they do eliminate the need for anti-personnel mines, that's not such a bad thing.
Guest #4 April 23, 2003 Quote Irony in the phrase "self-healing minefield" noted. Jah, I thought that "self-healing" was a poor turn of phrase, and very tacky. "Self-repairing" would have gotten the point across more effectively (I was confused when I first read the abstract), and wouldn't have been as weird..."The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat." Guest #5 April 23, 2003 Modern mines "expire" or deactivate after a predetermined period of time, so that they don't have to be cleared. Unfortunately, most of the millions of "toe-poppers" (mines intended to maim, not kill) are still active, and are still waiting for an unsuspecting farm animal or person to step on them. Minefields are supposed to be mapped and documented by those who place them (to keep friendlies from getting blown up), but mistakes are made, and sometimes soldiers get in a hurry and don't keep records. I don't find you humorous either and I suggest you keep comments like that to yourself."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
jraf 0 #10 April 23, 2003 Scott, so sorry you have not noticed the extremely sad sarcasm of my comment. We as a nation have not signed the document about non proliferation of land mines. Perhaps your brother in law should write to his senator about it. I don't share peoples enthusiasm about new funky land mines becasue land mines endanger ME while I travel. With all due respect my OWN legs are the ones I like the most. Next!jraf Me Jungleman! Me have large Babalui. Muff #3275

So by that token if you stepped on a landmine laid from another conflict you would find that humorous as well?"It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING

jraf 0 #14 April 24, 2003 I see you get my point. Yes that would be so funny, yet where I go, if I step on one it will be either made in the USA or the USSR. So I suppose it's a coin toss. Interesting issue: could I sue an American producer for damages? I find this on line enthusiasm towards land mines bizarre. I don't even want to go into discussion about their presumed tactical importance.jraf Me Jungleman! Me have large Babalui. Muff #3275
