sunshine 2 #1 April 16, 2003 I've looked at the American and Delta websites and cant' find any information about carrying on a pet. Has anyone ever done it or know anything about it? ___________________________________________ meow I get a Mike hug! I get a Mike hug!
bbarnhouse 0 #2 April 16, 2003 SunnyOne, Most carriers allow for small pets and charge an additonal fee. Generally that type of information can be found on the airlines website under "contract of carriage" baggage. I know lots of folks that fly with thier pets. Hope this helps. mujie96 0 #7 April 16, 2003 Call ahead, they generally limit the number of pets in the cabin to two. Sherpa makes a good soft sided carrier so your baby can fit under the seat, assuming he or she isn't huge. Just keep swimming...just keep swimming.... I cant stand the thought of checking her. She would be so scared without her mama to comfort her. ___________________________________________ meow I get a Mike hug! I get a Mike hug! Guest #9 April 16, 2003 I've seen people carrying cats on Southwest, the official airline of Northwest Aerosports (moi) hehehe "The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat."
Keith 0 #10 April 16, 2003 You're welcome Sunshine. Mujie is right about the Sherpa bags, they're great. I have one for each of my boys. Also, check with your vet before taking the little one on the plane. I used to have to give my dog a doggie downer before she flew 'cause she had a bad heart. For some pets a little sedation helps them travel better.Keith Don't Fuck with me Keith - J. Mandeville

I love it!! I haven't ever been in an airplane bathroom though....maybe on my next flight i'll check that out. ___________________________________________ meow I get a Mike hug! I get a Mike hug! mujie96 0 #13 April 16, 2003 ITs not generally recommended that you sedate an animal before airline travel although you would be there to moniter her, rather than her being checked. But check with your vet. I have flown with pets in cabin on ATA, and United and its way less of a hassle than checking them (I had to send them air cargo when flying to and from Hawaii and THAT was traumatizing, although mostly for me). Don't feed her beforehand, she's better hungry than messy and if you're flying around in the country, which I assume you are, the flight can't be too terribly long. I carried my little guy on when he was maybe 3 months old, he was so teensy. He slept or stared at me the whole way. Just keep swimming...just keep swimming.... The first flight is 1hour 45min, then a 55 minute layover, and a 40min flight. I think she'll be ok. ___________________________________________ meow I get a Mike hug! I get a Mike hug! Keith 0 #17 April 16, 2003 QuoteITs not generally recommended that you sedate an animal before airline travel . . . I should clarify. If necessary to sedate, you don't want to knock your pet out, you just want them to be relaxed.Keith Don't Fuck with me Keith - J. Mandeville
mouth 0 #18 April 16, 2003 Sunny, I've dealt with lots of in cabin animals in my time. Generally there is no problem. You need to make sure to keep your baby in whatever you use as carry on because 1) an aircraft cabin is also a food service area in theory 2) some people are highly allergic to pet hair. Make sure to put something in there for her to play with during the trip. I also agree to check into sedation with your vet if she is extremely active. I'll never forget the dog that barked all the way from LAX to JFK. I was ready to kill the owner as it wasn't the pets fault. You may wish to notify the airline in advance personally (get a name of someone) just to cover your bases. Good Luck, oh, and where ya going??? bvsdjumper 0 #19 April 16, 2003 If you're going to carry on your cat, you'll probably have to use an airline approved container. You might want to use this cat carrier. --Art Sky-div'ing (ski'div'ing) n. skygal3 0 #24 April 17, 2003 Sunny- my Lola has the Sherpa/samsonite carrier, it is soft sided and looks and carries just like luggage. I love it, other than one little sneaky thing she did to me a few weeks ago. The top unzips as well as one side, and she knew this somehow--I had the zippers meeting in the middle instead of at the end. She pushed with her nose and managed to sneak out--so if you go that route just becareful of your zipper placement! I really like the Samsonite carrier, the others are just too bulky to deal with.
