Follow the Iraq status without a bunch of words

I wonder how accurate those numbers are. It says only 6300 Iraqi soldiers were killed. I thought it would be higher.

And it also says that there were 1800 civilian casualties. That might be believable.

If these numbers are even close to accurate, this is a lot better than many anti-war groups were predicting. I heard many of them on talk shows predicting 300,000 to 500,000 dead Iraqis from this war.

April 3, 2003 re. the Battle of Baghdad:

"The body count is going to be enormous," said Tim Ripley, a defense specialist at Britain's Lancaster University.

High casualties predicted for war in Iraq

An international anti-war group is predicting up to 260,000 people will be killed in Iraq if war goes ahead.

The Medical Association for Prevention of War has held a conference in the South Australian city of Adelaide.

Keynote speaker Dr Bob Gould says under the best case scenario of a short war, most of the predicted casualties will be civilians.

"The likely casualties of even a short war, and one that would not escalate in ways that would be extremely dangerous, would be somewhere in the order of 48,000 to 261,000 deaths," Dr Gould said.
