steve1 5 #1 April 11, 2003 My daughter came home from college the other day. After a couple days home she said she had something to tell me. When she stuck her tongue out and showed me this big shiny thing, she immediately noticed this big frown on my face. I could tell she felt pretty bad about things after this, so I tried to act like it was okay. I couldn't help but put a dime on my tongue for a while to make fun of things though. I did my best to raise her up to be a "Red Neck", (like her old man), but I guess I failed! Oh well, I guess she doesn't have to wear it all the time. If you were a parent in my shoes, what would you do??? I guess things could have been worse. She could have told me she was pregnant. Or she might have showed me a big tatoo of a battle ship on her chest. It's not easy being a parent.........Steve1
Casch 0 #2 April 11, 2003 I'm only 18 so I obviously have no idea how it feels to see my kid and the changes they go through for/agains my personal values etc. But I don't think you should feel bad at all, you didn't go wrong. Today there is nothing wrong with a tongue ring. How old is your daughter? In my generation, most piercings are pretty "cool"
Luv2Fall 0 #3 April 11, 2003 Not much you can do.........and no you didn't fail. Each generation does something "fashionable" that the older generation doesn't "understand". My oldest son has an ear ring "ms?"....I can't even spell it LOL................I don't understand it but it doesn't change him in the least. He's still the son I raised, but with an ear ring LOL. mikeat10500 12 #6 April 11, 2003 Steve Your only hope is to get your eyebrow pierced so when she comes home next time you can one up her. Really Steve she found a new thing, thinks it's cool and wanted to share it with you...no biggy. I don't have any idea why anyone would want to punch holes in their body but I learned to be tolerant. steve1 5 #7 April 11, 2003 There was a bush pilot in Alaska who flew sight seeing tours at MT. Mckinley, (years ago). His son came home with really long hair, which bothered him. So he wanted to make a point of how having long hair wasn't appropriate. So he shaved off half his own hair (down the middle) leaving the other side long. Then he shaved off half his beard, leaving the other side long. This sounded like a good plan, until he had to fly some clients from Japan. He came walking out to his Cessna with his hair and beard shaved half way off and then introduced himself as their new pilot.....Steve1

kingbunky 3 #9 April 11, 2003 freaky colored or cut hair, out-of-sight piercings are not permanent and non-scarring... a little disapproval is okay but i wouldn't flip out. if you said nothing, she may assume she hasn't found a limit yet, then it's on to tatoos or something permanent."Hang on a sec, the young'uns are throwin' beer cans at a golf cart." I guess she is a chip off the old block....Maybe I will get some clip on rings for my nose and eye-brows and ears, and then maybe hook them together with a couple of chains. (I'm too chicken to get the actual piercings.) At any rate I may look a little different at Lost Prairie, next summer.....Steve1
Jessica 0 #16 April 11, 2003 My tongue is pierced, and I am a well-brought-up, upstanding young citizen. In fact, I credit the excellent rearing my parents provided with giving me the confidence and independence to punch a steel bar through my tongue all those years ago.Skydiving is for cool people only

AndyMan 7 #22 April 11, 2003 Steve, I mean this in the nicest possible way. The music isn't too loud, you're too old. Body piercing is becoming not only acceptiable among virtually all circles of todays youth, it's becomming common. That's a cool thing, as farr as I'm concerned. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
Pammi 0 #23 April 11, 2003 Hey, you didn't even notice it until she told you :) No biggie. It's better then a tattoo. I don't care if my kids get any of that, but if they get a tattoo, they'll get a little more lecturing then a piercing because it's permanant, whereas a piercing is not. If that's the worst she does, consider yourself an amazing parent!! Geez, I hope my parents don't blame themselves for my mistakes...those poor people!
